    • An engine (18) delivers torque to a transmission drive shaft (12) through a flywheel (14) and a damper (16). The damper (16) includes a drive plate (30) attached to the flywheel (14) which is in turn mounted on the engine crankshaft (10). The damper (16) has two driven plates (32, 34) which are fixed on the transmission drive shaft (12). The drive plate (30) and driven plates (32, 34) have openings (48, 52, 54) for retaining springs (36, 36') through which torque is transmitted from the drive plate (30) to the driven plates (32, 34). The flywheel (14) has a plurality of arcuate segments (24) equally spaced apart around a peripheral edge to form a plurality of windows (26). One of the driven plates (32) has a plurality of radially extending fingers (56) each extending into one of the windows (26) so that gaps (26a, 26b) exist between each finger (56) and two adjacent arcuate segments (24). As torque is transmitted through the damper (16) the springs (36, 36') are compressed and the fingers (56) move in the windows (26). A single sensor (58) senses the passage of the arcuate segments (24), gaps (26a, 26b) and fingers (56) and generates an output signal which is analyzed by a microcomputer (60) to produce indications of engine RPM and torque transmitted through the damper (16).

    • The present invention relates to a shock absorber (1) which is provided with a fastener device (70) for attachment of the absorber to a supportive surface (100) to be protected against the shock of impact forces. The shock absorber (1) includes an external element (10) and a shock absorbing bar (20) which is accommodated in an aperture (15) in the external element. The external element (10) also includes an aperture for accommodating the fastener device (70). The shock absorbing bar (20) is made of an impact absorbing material and is provided with recesses (21-26). The invention also relates to the use of an inventive shock absorber and also to a method of making subsequent adjustments thereto.

    • A one-piece attachment device (15,16) for mounting an end of a fluid actuated member (14) on a support component (12,13). The attachment device has a plurality of first flexible fingers (58,94) which terminate at a tip provided with an outwardly extending shoulder (66,102) and a tapered camming surface (64,100). The fingers are moved inwardly by engagement of the camming surfaces (64,100) with the support component (12,13) as the fingers (58,94) pass through an aperture (44,50) formed therein, and thereafter attempt to return toward their original position. The finger shoulders (66,102) engage the support component (12,13) to secure the attachment device to the support component (12,13). A second plurality of inwardly and upwardly extending flexible fingers (70,97) are also provided on the attachment device and define an interior opening (72,110). A mounting stud (34) of a fluid actuated member (14) is inserted through the interior opening and the second fingers (70,97) will move outwardly initially upon passage of the stud (34) therethrough, afterwhich the fingers attempt to return toward their original position securely gripping and retaining the stud (34) therebetween to secure the fluid actuated member (14) to the attachment device (15,16). In another embodiment the second fingers (70,97) have inwardly extending tangs (104), the tips of which form the interior opening for securing and gripping the mounting stud therein.
