摘要： A device and method allow for detecting the presence of microorganisms in clinical and non-clinical specimens. The device, a sensor (1), provides an environment to culture microbial organism colonies from a fluid sample, and a means to facilitate microbial detection and quantification, either manually or with an instrument. The sensor (1) has a microorganism immobilization matrix layer (10) and a sensor layer (12). Detected microbial colonies are immediately available for further testing. The sensor provides an area (2) for accepting a fluid sample, a mechanism to immobilize the fluid sample on an interior surface of the plate, nutrients to facilitate growth of microorganisms in the sample, and a sensor for allowing the detection and/or enumeration of microorganism colonies within the sample.

摘要： A method is disclosed for predicting the presence of an abnormal level of one or more proteins in the clotting cascade from at least one time-dependent measurement profile. At least one time-dependent measurement on an unknown sample is performed and a respective property of said sample is measured over time so as to derive a time-dependent measurement profile. A set of a plurality of predictor variables are defined which sufficiently define the data of the time-dependent measurement profile. A model is then derived that represents the relationship between the abnormality and the set of predictor variables. Subsequently, the model is utilized to predict which protein or proteins in the clotting cascade are at an abnormal level, with the prediction being a more informative prediction than clot time alone.

摘要： A method and a sealable, sterilizable vessel (36) for detecting the presence of microorganisms in a specimen, the vessel containing a liquid culture medium and a sensor (37) with an indicator medium therein. A gas permeable membrane (31) with a gas impermeable removable seal (32) thereon are provided in a wall of the vessel. If the microorganism to be detected is an anaerobic organism, then the gas impermeable seal (32) is left in place. If the microorganism to be detected is an aerobic organism, then the gas impermeable seal (32) is removed so as to allow the passage of oxygen into the vessel. In a preferred embodiment, the gas permeable membrane (31) allows the passage of oxygen into the vessel while at least partly restricting the passage of carbon dioxide to outside of the vessel. Changes in the indicator medium resulting from a change in gas production (CO2, NH2, H2S, etc.), volatile acid production or pH concentration in the medium, are detected from outside the vessel.
