摘要： Apparatus and associated system relate to an article of footwear with armor for protecting a wearer's foot from injury. A shoe or boot (120) has a rigid or semi-rigid toe-cap (130) enclosing the toes of the wearer. An arch of armor (135) encircles the wearer's foot above his/her toe-joints. This arch (135) attaches to the outsole (145) of the shoe or boot (120) on both sides of the wearer's foot at approximately his/her toe-joints and extends up and over the foot, approximately covering the toe-joints of the wearer. In various embodiments, a longitudinal beam (140) may slidably ride on top of both the armored arch (135) and the toe-cap (130), providing metatarsal coverage. In other embodiments, the beam (140) may be attached to the armored arch (135), but be slidable above or on top of the toe-cap (130). This slidable coupling of armor enhances the flexibility of the footwear.

摘要： An improved welt construction for use in a welted shoe is disclosed, in which the construction contains a number of components, including: (1) an anti-fatigue layer 32 with tapered recesses 38 for providing cushioning; (2) a rigid shock diffusion welt-frame back part 60; (3) a flexible forepart welt-frame 66; (4) a torsional shank 72; and (5) a flexible ply rib 76, which may surround a periphery 26 of the support system. A variety of devices for protecting a user's foot from injury are also disclosed. In one embodiment, the device may be a metatarsal protection device 318, 330, 390, 118, 190, 220 having a first layer of material with top and bottom surfaces, at least one of such surfaces including a series of cones 336 or a pattern of hexagons 378, 100 thereon. The device 318, 330, 390, 118, 190, 220 may also include a second relatively rigid layer of material overlying the first layer, such that the device is configured to protect the metatarsal region of a user's foot against injury.
