    • In a system and method for preparing digital media for delivery, outgoing digital media (108) are automatedly inserted into empty digital media envelopes. A scanner scans a code on the digital media. Based on the code, the system determines an intended delivery address. The system applies delivery address information, as determined from the scanned code, to the filled envelopes. The method and system may also include steps and components for receiving and sorting incoming digital media. Incoming digital media (102) are sorted to determine which (107) are to be re-used as outgoing digital media for the outgoing aspect of the system. Incoming digital media (102) are scanned to identify senders. The system identifies what new digital media the sender would like to receive in place of the returned digital media. It is determined which received digital media can be re-used to satisfy outgoing requests. The requested outgoing digital media (107) are sorted from the incoming digital media (102).

    • A system for acquiring and storing mailpiece processing and tracking details in association with mailing details for a mailpiece, wherein said mailing details are received from a postal delivery system. The system includes at least one mailpiece processing system for generating mailpieces wherein the mailpiece processing system is configured to generate an electronic file containing the processing details for its generated mailpieces. Also included is at least one imaging device for acquiring images of the generated mailpieces. A database is provided for storing the mailpiece processing and tracking details along with the acquired images. An electronic communication system links the database to: a postal delivery system; the at least one mailpiece processing system and to the mailpiece imaging device. A computer is coupled to the database and is configured to create a searchable electronic catalog whereby the respective mailpiece processing and tracking details and the acquired image for each mailpiece are associated with one another for searching by a user.

    • The invention provides a method of detection of an imprint of a postal indicium at a location on a mail piece (26) comprising the steps of utilising a sensor (35) to scan along a band (43) on the mail piece (26) to detect a sequence of transitions between light and dark reflectance areas within said band (43), said band (43) extending across said location; generating an indication of presence of the imprint of the postal indicium (25) in response to detection of a transition succeeding a predetermined number of initial transitions at a start of the sequence of transitions.
      Also provided is apparatus for imprinting postal indicia (25) on mail pieces (26) comprising printing means (23) operable to print a postal indicium (25) in a required location on the mail piece (26); a first sensor (35) responsive to reflectance transitions between light and dark along a band (43) of the mail piece (26) extending across said location to generate a sequence of first signals corresponding respectively to reflectance transitions along said band (43); means operative in response to a first signal occurring after a predetermined number of said first signals at a start of said sequence to generate a second signal indicative of a postal indicium imprint on the mail piece.
