    • A protection apparatus for a load cell having a constrained end portion and a movable end portion and a load detection apparatus incorporating the same are provided. The protection apparatus includes a housing having a longitudinal axis with a first end and a second end, a pivot disposed through the housing and located in a plane perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the housing, and a sensor mount pivotally disposed on the pivot. The protection apparatus through its pivot transfers away from the load cell forces that are not aligned with a direction in which the load cell operates. The sensor mount has a first end and a second end, the first end of the sensor mount is disposed in the first end of the housing between a first position and a second position defined by the housing. The second end is configured for attachment to the movable end portion of the load cell. At least one spring is disposed in the second end of the housing for constraining the constrained end portion of the load cell.

According to the invention, the force sensor comprises an integrated overload protection, whereby the cover (20) also surrounds a part (10, 3) of the other force input element (1/2/10/3) with generation of a circumferential gap, the cover (20) comprises a waisting (23) extending inwards, opposing a shoulder (19) on the other force input element with a small axial separation, such that on a radial overload as well as an axial overload, the other force input element rests on a part of the cover (20) after a small deflection and said cover (20) is embodied to be sufficiently rigid to be able to transfer the overload forces from one force input element (6/7) to the other force input element (1).

When a measurement signal proportional to the effect of the measured quantity exceeds/goes below a predetermined measuring range, the magnetic field and consequently the shape of the means (102) containing functional metal can be varied such that the access of the effect of the measured quantity to the measuring transducer (202) is limited at least partly as a result of deformation of said means (102) containing functional metal, either directly or indirectly.
