    • Elevator control software uses a signal from a passenger weight sensor and observed weight fuzzy logic sets to provide a fuzzy logic set indicative of the number of passengers in a car. The traffic mode of an elevator system is set according to the number and frequency of passengers departing and arriving at a building lobby. The utility of assigning each car of an elevator system to service a hall call is determined by estimating the performance of each car using a plurality of performance criteria. The number of hall passengers waiting at a stop for service by a car is determined by first calculating instantaneous passenger rates whenever a hall call button is pressed or whenever passengers board a car. An uncertainty filter is provided with input data indicating a fuzzy logic set having basis elements corresponding to cars of an elevator system having degrees of membership associated therewith corresponding to the utility of assigning the associated car to service a hall call.

    • The present invention is directed to an elevator dispatching system for controlling the assignment of elevator cars. More particularly, the present invention is directed to a method of determining the commencement and/or conclusion of UP-PEAK and DOWN-PEAK periods of operation. For example, for commencing UP-PEAK operation, a lobby boarding count is predicted, based on historical information of the number of passengers boarding the elevators at the lobby. The predicted lobby boarding count is compared with a predetermined threshold value. If the predicted lobby boarding count is greater than the predetermined threshold value, UP-PEAK is commenced. In the preferred embodiment, the predetermined threshold value is a predetermined percentage of the building's population. Additionally, the present invention is directed to a method of adjusting the threshold value based on actual passenger traffic. For example, once UP-PEAK is commenced, the load of the first few elevators leaving the lobby within a predetermined time interval is determined, and the threshold value is adjusted based on their predetermined load. If the determined load is greater than a certain percentage of the elevator car's capacity, indicative of starting UP-PEAK too late, the threshold value is decreased. Similarly, if the determined load is less than a certain percentage of the elevator car's capacity, indicatve of starting UP-PEAK too soon, the threshold value is increased.

    • A method of operating an elevator arrangement (1) with an emergency priority function is proposed. The elevator arrangement (1) comprises an elevator car (3) being movable between various floors (5) upon control by an elevator controller (7). The method comprises: monitoring an emergency call initiator (19) (e.g. emergency button 17), being configured to be actuated e.g. by an person waiting in an affected floor (5). Upon detecting actuation of the emergency call initiator (19), an operation mode of the elevator controller (7) is switched from a normal mode to an emergency priority mode. In such mode, car calls made with lower priority are generally ignored and following emergency actions are performed:
      - the elevator car (3) is moved directly to the affected floor (5);
      - passengers are alerted about the emergency;
      - the passengers are allowed to exit at the affected floor (5) and the person is allowed to enter the elevator car (3);
      - upon a single selection of a destination floor made by a person in the elevator car (3), the elevator car is moved directly to the destination floor and the person is allowed to exit the elevator car at the destination floor.
      Upon completion of the emergency actions, the operation mode is switched from the emergency priority mode to a restricted mode in which at least some of functions available in the normal mode are restricted.
      Resulting from a sum of measures proposed herein, fastest possible transportation may be provided by the elevator arrangement being in the emergency priority mode. However, inter alia due to the subsequent automatically attained restricted operation mode, misuse of the emergency priority function is discouraged.
