    • A microwave oven having a high voltage control circuit which prevents an overheating of a high voltage transformer. The high voltage control circuit includes a thermostat which is turned on or off according to a temperature of the high voltage transformer. The thermostat is disposed between a first fixed terminal of a tap formed at a primary coil of the high voltage transformer and a second fixed terminal connected to a power stage, so as to allow the primary coil to have different numbers of turns. According, where the output of a magnetron of the microwave oven becomes high and the temperature of the high voltage transformer reaches a predetermined temperature, the thermostat is turned off, thus enabling the first and second fixed terminals to be disconnected from each other. Therefore, the number of turns of the primary coil of the high voltage transformer is increased and the voltage supplied to the magnetron is decreased, thus maintaining the decreased output of the magnetron and preventing the overheating of the high voltage transformer.

    • A compact and highly controllable impedance-varying-unit, a microwave device using the same unit, and a high-frequency-heating appliance using the same unit are provided. The impedance varying unit includes a rectangular waveguide-section as a main body made of metallic material, an open end of waveguide-section working on microwave in a microwave cavity, a terminal end of waveguide-section closed by metallic material, a rotary movable body made of non-metallic material, and a driver for the movable body. A rotating angle or a position of the movable body is controlled, so that an impedance at the open end is varied and transmission status of microwave is changed, thereby variably controlling a standing wave distribution. Controlling the standing wave distribution allows an object in the cavity to be selectively heated or uniformly heated. Further, the standing wave produced in the microwave cavity is sequentially varied, so that the object can be selectively heated or uniformly heated. The present invention solves the problem of spark production, and provides a compact as well as highly controllable impedance varying unit, a microwave device using the same unit and a high-frequency-heating appliance using the same unit.

    • A microwave polymerization system for dentistry utilizes specifically controlled microwave energy to cure polymer materials so as to produce dental prosthetics, such as dentures, bridges and crowns, that are made in an extra-oral setting such as a dental laboratory or dental office, and to create dental composites for fillings and veneers that are used in an intra-oral setting directly in the patient's mouth. Unlike the microwave energy delivered by commercial microwave ovens which is controlled by pulsing a maximum voltage pulse on and off at a given duty cycle, the system utilizes metered and controlled microwave energy that is preferably continuous and voltage controlled, and regulates the application of this microwave energy by use of various feedback and control mechanisms. The metered and controlled microwave energy enables a higher degree of conversion of monomers into polymer chains in the polymerization process, thereby enhancing the physical and biocompatibility characteristics of both dental prosthetics and dental composites made from polymers. In an extra-oral embodiment, gaseous pressure is applied to the resin matrix during the polymerization process to further enhance the polymerization process. In an intra-oral embodiment, the polymerization process can be accomplished with less overall energy and with composite-matrices that maximally absorb the microwave energy so as to reduce heating of adjacent tissue.
