    • The invention relates to a device for producing bound written material with representative covers, for marketing texts, magazines, constructions plans, collections of drawings, contracts, offers and promotional literature (catalogues) as required in small to medium series. A heatable ceramic surface (1) with an integrated heating element has several inductive (3) and thermal sensors (2) on its underside, for detecting covers with a metal inlay and for controlling the heat output. Said inductive sensors (3) are partially also supplemented with sensors with microswitches (16), optical sensors (17) and additionally, a pressure sensor (22) if the device is to be used for binding covers consisting of non metallic materials at the same time. The very short time for heating up the ceramic heating surface (1) made technically possible by the invention and the use of the stored temperature is made optimal use of through an internal flap system which is motor-operated. Integrated ventilators (4) ensure controlled ducted cooling which can also be supported by Peltier elements embedded in the ceramic heating surface (1). The inventive device can be used for binding different formats (DIN A4, DIN A5) and thicknesses.

    • A vapor-dispensing or other environment-altering apparatus is configured to integrate with a receptacle in a discreet manner. In accordance with one embodiment of the invention, an environment-altering apparatus is configured to mimic an electrical receptacle having an outlet pattern. The environment-altering apparatus has a front surface which includes an outlet pattern substantially corresponding to the outlet pattern of the electrical receptacle, and a plug configured to interface with the electrical receptacle. A device configured to modify one or more attributes of the environment is interposed between the front surface and plug pattern. These attributes include, for example, aromatic vapor density, insecticide vapor density, ambient light intensity, ionic air content, ultrasonic frequency intensity, and the like.

    • A laminate, e.g. a heatable windshield has a pair of glass sheets laminated together about a member responsive to electrical stimuli, e.g. changes transmission or is heated as current passes through the member. A pair of spaced bus bars is in surface contact with the conductive member, and a lead assembly associated with each of the bus bars has a lead in contact with its respective bus bar and extends beyond the periphery of the sheets. The lead assembly further includes first and second air barriers to prevent air from moving between the sheets after the edge sealing procedure and during autoclaving of the laminate subassembly. The first air barrier is an adhesive between surfaces of the lead and inner surfaces of an electric and mechanical protective sleeve positioned over portions of its respective lead. The second air barrier is a thermo set, non-tacky adhesive layer between the outer sheets of the windshield and outer surface portions of the protective sleeve to prevent air from moving between the outer surface of the sleeve and the adjacent glass surface, and thereafter, between the bus bars and the conductive member. In one embodiment of the invention, a heatable windshield has a sputtered electrically conductive coating connected to the pair of spaced bus bars. The perimeter of the coating is spaced from the peripheral edge of the blank on which the coating is applied to provide an uncoated area. End portions of each of the bus bar extend beyond the perimeter of the coating into the uncoated area to minimize, if not eliminate hot spots at the end portions of the bus bars. Additional embodiments to reduce hot spots includes not having the side portions of the coating between the bus bars extend beyond the ends of the longest bus bar, and reducing the space between the bus bars while maintaining the bus bars outside the vision area of the windshield.
