    • A multi-mode wireless device is provided to communicate with a plurality of networks, at least some of the networks having different modes of communication. The multi-mode wireless device has a network selection component to monitor at least some of networks and switch the multi-mode wireless device to communicate with different networks based on a network selection criterion. The user interface allows a user of the multi-mode wireless device to edit the network selection criterion based on a user preference related to the network used by the multi-mode wireless device. A method for communicating on one or more networks using a multi-mode wireless device is also provided.

    • The problem of simpler more efficient multimode wireless communication and of location finding in distinct cellular systems and wireless networks is solved by the current multimode wireless invention, having touch screen operation and touch screen generated control and having parts of Bluetooth, Wireless Fidelity (Wi-Fi), third generation (3G) and Global Positioning System (GPS) in a single device, instead of separate devices. A received GPS signal is processed with a Bluetooth signal, or with processed Wi-Fi signal, or with a processed 3G signal and is provided to a transmitter for transmission. Frequency Hopped Spread Spectrum (FH-SS) signal is processed with a frequency division multiplexed (OFDM) signal and or with time division multiple access (TDMA) or Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) signals. Filtered and shaped cross-correlated in-phase and quadrature-phase baseband signals are generated. TDMA systems include Global Mobile System (GSM) implementations. Processing and providing processed position finder signal received from at least one satellite transmitter and from at least one land based transmitter. Demodulating and processing of a modulated transmitted signal, with demodulation and post demodulation filtering by a filter which is mis-matched to the corresponding transmit filter.

    • A method for initiating uplink signaling proactively by the MBMS UE, comprising steps of: the UE moving to a new cell; listening to information on a MCCH; initiating an uplink signaling according to information on the MCCH; sending a response message to the UE by a RNC, or if no UE moving to the new cell, initiating the uplink signaling proactively by the UE if the information received from the MCCH includes an indication for UE counting; and sending a response message to the UE by the RNC. The UE in URA_PCH mode and IDLE mode can response to the MBMS Notification message sent by the RNC, and can initiate the Cell Update process or the RRC Connection process in order to obtain the MBMS parameters. The RNC sets different contents for the response message according to different reasons of message initiation.
