    • A page processing apparatus for forming layout information showing an allocating position of each page for multi-page printing in which a plurality of pages are arranged to one print medium and printed has: a page designating unit which designates a page to be overlapped and an overlapping page among the pages; an area designating unit which designates an overlap possible area or an overlap inhibition area to an area of the designated page to be overlapped and obtains the designated area as area information; and a layout information obtaining unit which determines a layout position of each page on the basis of the obtained area information and obtains a predetermined page layout as layout information. A good print result is obtained in the multi-page printing.

    • It is an object of the present invention, when extracting arbitrary region(s) from image(s) taken with a digital camera or the like and printing same, to make it possible to carry out borderless printing. During cropped printing, because user(s) can specify arbitrary region(s) of arbitrary size(s), aspect ratio(s) of cropped image(s) and aspect ratio(s) of printing paper will not match, and distorted image(s) will result if an attempt is made to carry out printing with no border at any of the four edges thereof. Image(s) may therefore be rotated based on aspect ratio(s) of print region(s) defined by print layout(s) and aspect ratio(s) of cropped image(s) (S17 through S19), and image(s) may be enlarged and/or reduced such that aspect ratio(s) thereof is or are preserved unaltered so as to cause no margin to be formed on at least either the two horizontal or the two vertical edges of print region(s) (S20). Furthermore, when carrying out borderless printing, portion(s) extending beyond edge(s) of printing paper may be taken into consideration in advance in establishing image cutting frame(s). This will make it possible for printing of image(s) at locus or loci specified by user(s) to be carried out faithfully, without distortion, and without borders at two edges thereof.

    • A printer control and information management system is provided employing numerous individual satellite modules, and providing an enterprise-wide output system capable of receiving all types of input and redirecting of all types of output. Data can be inputted from any location in an enterprise system and coordinated into a coherent format for reporting and forms processing. Forms can be automatically generated based on the data inputted, which forms can be directed to the appropriate personnel. The system provides for notifications to the appropriate personnel in order to resolve problems which may arise from the operation of the various equipment utilized in the enterprise network system. Information can be redirected to anyone within the system, the user identifying the manner and format of the information to be presented. Thus, inbound reports can be received from different systems and outputs delivered in the format that is preferred by the user. Report recognition is provided for any application, with the ability to merge textual information with electronic forms. Additionally, the forms can be completed with bar code information to prevent inadvertent disclosure of sensitive information. Large and contiguous host generated reports can be electronically distributed to users, as well as the ability to automatically fax any type of report directly to any recipient. The system can be accessed via the Internet for ease of inputting and reviewing information at any location.

    • A print engine/controller (10) configured to be coupled with others to drive an ink drop printhead (33). It has an interface (27) at which to receive compressed page data. Image decoders (28, 88) decode compressed image planes image decoders to perform an expansion, in pipeline fashion, for the received compressed page data. A half-toner/compositer (29) composites respective strips of the decoded image planes and sends output to a printhead interface (32). A printhead interface (32) interfaces with the printhead. A synchronization signal generator (89, 90) may output a synchronization signal that is used to synchronize print engine/controllers. One printhead interface (32) preferably acts as master generating the synchronization signal to synchronize all the print engine/controllers to drive the printhead at any one or more of higher speed, higher input resolution, higher outlet resolution or wider format. The printhead interface comprises two LineSyncGen units, a first LineSyncGen unit providing a synchronization signal for multiple print engine/controller chips and a second LineSyncGen unit adapted to pulse a paper drive stepping motor.

    • A combination automatic document feeder and scanner operates so as to detect automatically an over-sized sheet of media. A linear image sensor detects motion of the oversized document as it is being fed into the scanner in a portrait orientation. A control algorithm responsive to the image sensor functions so those first and second portions of the over-sized sheet are successively registered over the transparent platen of the scanner and scanned. The resulting digital images of the first and second portions of the over-sized sheet are digitally stitched together using a control algorithm that causes 1) a front portion of the oversized document to be advanced a sufficient distance in a forward direction to place the front portion inside the scanning area of the line scanner but not a sufficient distance to place the rear portion of the oversized document inside the scanning area of the line scanner; 2) the line scanner to move in a perpendicular direction to the oversized document to capture indicia information disposed on the front portion of the oversized document; 3) the line scanner to move to a target area below the front portion of the oversized document for capturing a line of indicia information disposed on the front portion of the oversized document; 4) the front portion of the oversized document to advance in a direction perpendicular to the motion of the line scanner in a series of predetermined exposure intervals to determine the distance the oversized document traveled into the scanning area of the line scanner; 5) the line scanner to move in a perpendicular direction to the oversized document to capture indicia information disposed on the rear portion of the oversized document; 6) the front portion indicia information to be combined with the rear portion indicia information without any substantial discontinuity a memory, faxed or printed.
