    • A low-pass filter arrangement associated a clamping circuit for limiting unwanted transient signals to be transmitted through the filter. Mainly the variations (dI/dt) of the current flowing through the filter are eliminated. The filter may form part of a splitter used in an ADSL system to separate low frequency POTS signals from high frequency ADSL signals simultaneously transmitted over a same copper twisted-pair transmission line. The filter comprises the series connection of a coil and the main path of a transistor of which the gate terminal is connected to the opposite end of the coil. In an ADSL system, a classical 7th order low-pass filter may advantageously be replaced by a 3rd order filter arrangement.

    • Using a telephone line interface circuit with negative feedback, it is possible to control the current through the circuit so that the ratio of the voltage applied across the circuit to the current is the desired value of impedance. Voltage feedback from the line controls the current through the circuit, thereby reflecting a “virtual” impedance to the telephone line. By adequately filtering the voltage feedback, the reflected impedance to the line can be adjusted to any desired impedance function, without using the actual values of the impedance. The circuit is thus ideally suited for applications in which the impedance values need to be varied depending upon the characteristics of the telephone system.

    • The present disclosure describes an ultrasonically-calibrated fast-start adaptive echo canceller system. The system consists of at least one ultrasonic transducer for transmitting ultrasound signal and at least one ultrasonic receiver for receiving reflected ultrasound echo. The system also includes an echo pulse counter that operates constantly when the phone is on. The counter processes the reflected ultrasound echo from the ultrasonic receiver to determine optimum sets of ultrasonic delay and attenuation coefficients. A fast-start adaptive controller adaptively controls an algorithm stored in a random access memory to correlate sets of audio-frequency coefficients for transversal filter with predetermined sets of ultrasonic coefficients by using an ultrasound to audio-frequency conversion table. The resultant sets of audio-frequency coefficients are held on a stack.
