    • A method for forming signals at a transceiver having at least two transmit and receive chain, the method comprising the steps of: (a) determining the phase difference and relative amplitude of signals from a set comprising a plurality of mobile stations as received through the receive chains, (b) receiving from each of at least one of the mobile stations messages indicative of the strength or quality of signals as received by the respective mobile station from the transceiver and on the basis of those messages determining a phase offset and amplitude distortion, internal to the transceiver, resulting from the differences in the instrumental properties of the receiver and transmitter chains in the transceiver; and (c) transmitting signals from each of the transmitter chains by applying to each transmitter chain amplitude weights and signal delays, selected on the basis of the determined phase offset and amplitude distortion, and received relative amplitudes and phase differences.

    • In a system having a base station transmitter for transmitting data blocks to one or more mobile stations over a radio link, there is a method for determining an uplink transmit power level at which to transmit a current data block over a radio link from the mobile to the base transmitter station. The method evaluates airlink quality measurements in the radio link over a measurement interval, wherein each time a message is sent to the mobile station, it is evaluated whether a specified number of uplink blocks have been transmitted by the mobile station since the start of the measurement interval. Based on the evaluated airlink quality measurement, the method determines the uplink transmit power level that the mobile should be using for the current block, and adjusts the transmit power level, if necessary, for the current block.

    • There is provided a radio station and a radio network controller performing communication by CDMA, able to change transmission speed in response to the propagation environment, and carry on communications without communication quality degradation. The radio station comprises a signal quality reception unit for receiving information of quality of the signals having been transmitted by the radio station, received by a party thereof, and sent to the radio station by the party, in which the information is measured from the received signals by the party, and a code multiplicity determination unit configured to determine a code multiplicity of signals transmitted from the radio station to the party based on the received information of signal quality. The radio station transmits the signals to the party using the determined code multiplicity.

    • A portable wireless andon communication system and method for use in manufacturing, assembly and other industrial settings. A transmitter station and receiver station are set up for immediate use by simply connecting each to a standard power source. A user needing assistance manually activates a switch at the transmitter station, thus turning on a light and transmitting a corresponding signal to the receiver station. The receiver station receives the signal and turns on a corresponding light and tone generator. The tone generator and light alert indicate to the proper parties the request for a response. A responding party scans transmitter stations for the corresponding light and provides assistance. The switch may be a sensor activated by a change in state indicating that assistance is required. The portable system is easily reconfigured if necessitated by layout changes in a manufacturing line.

    • A noise blanker (40, 106) monitors and removes noise from a sampled signal by adaptive filtering (98, 150) the sampled signal to generate trained adaptive filter prediction coefficients. The sampled signal is provided as an output signal when the noise blanker is in a training mode. A noise monitor (34, 154) detects whether noise contained within the sampled signal exceeds a predetermined threshold and provides a control signal in response to the detecting. The noise blanker is placed in a prediction mode for a predetermined amount of time in response to asserting the control signal. A prediction output signal is generated using a plurality of prediction coefficients as an all-pole filter. The prediction output signal has minimal noise content.
