    • 1477113 Waveform generators; digital-to-analogue conversion INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORP 10 June 1975 [18 Sept 1974] 24770/75 Heading H3H An FSK modulator comprises an oscillator feeding a counting means controlled by a mark/ space input to count at different speeds and to provide gated outputs to a second counter controlling a synthesiser providing a stepped sine wave output. The stepped wave may be smoothed by a (linear phase) filter and the mark/input may also set different counts; the synthesiser may include a weighted D/A converter. A mark signal on line 28 enables flip-flop 32 which is set on the next negative transition from oscillator 34, which disables gates 44, 50 and enables gate 56 passing half rate (2 MHz) oscillator pulses from flip-flop 52 through OR 58 to 8 stage counter 62, currently set at an 104 division ratio (1200 Hz line signal on Bell 202 system) output being through AND 72 and OR 76 to a 4 stage counter 82 providing 8 steps up and down to control a translator 22 and weighted D/A converter 24 providing a 2 volt maximum output. In similar mode, a space signal resets flipflop 32 causing admission of full rate (4 MHz) oscillator pulses to counter 62 which is set (for Bell 202) at a division ratio of 114 (providing 2200 Hz line signal). Counts for other system frequencies may be set through lines 70a-70d. The digital-to-analogue converter, Fig. 2.- Transistors 101-104 and resistors 108-111 provide four independent current sources with further transistors 116-119 switching the currents additively through resistor 120 under control of inverted zero input signals on lines R1-R4. Further transistors 147-150 and resistors 153-156 compensate for inaccuracies due to base currents of transistors and voltage/ current parameters of Zener diode 140. The signals on lines R1-R4 are derived through 22 which translates the 8 step output of counter 82 to appropriate signals [see Table A (not shown) for correlation]. The linear filter (Fig. 3, not shown) includes an operational amplifier (170) with an RC feedback path (188, 190) to provide a smoothed wave on output line 30.
