    • An apparatus (110) (FIG. 1) for differentially sensing a ground fault in a power distribution circuit is configured to route a plurality of power signals, the power signals when summed resulting in a zero sum signal. The apparatus (110) includes a circuit element (e.g., a resistor) (128), first and second current transformers (CTs) (112, 114, 116), and a routing circuit (118). The first and second current transformers (112, 114, 116) are configured to sense first and second power signals and to generate first and second sense signals representative of the first and second power signals, respectively. The routing circuit (118) is configured to receive the first and second sense signals to provide a residual signal across the circuit element (128).

    • A circuit breaker having a trip mechanism and an electronic module having an application specific integrated circuit (ASIC), a control circuit, a composite circuit which generates a composite signal voltage, a residual circuit, the circuit breaker comprising a first power supply to provide a first voltage signal and a second power supply to provide a second voltage signal. An analog override circuit in the circuit breaker is configured to receive the first voltage signal from the first power supply, the second voltage signal from the second power supply and the composite signal voltage from the composite circuit. The analog override circuit provides an override signal to the ASIC which is coupled to a logic gate configured to receive a first trip signal from the control circuit and a second trip signal from the ASIC and provides a third trip signal to the trip mechanism.

    • In the embodiment described in the specification, a fault tolerant motor drive circuit arrangement includes a motor having three stator windings which are electrically isolated and are supplied by separate single phase drive circuits, each having a differential current sensor detecting current in both circuit conductors and an overcurrent sensor in one circuit conductor, along with a ground connection for each circuit having a ground conductor with an overcurrent sensor and a high resistance with a voltage sensor across the high resistance. A monitoring unit receives signals from all of the differential current sensors, overcurrent sensors and voltage sensors to provide indications of the location of insulation faults or incipient faults in the windings.

    • Two or more electric lines which transmit switching signals are monitored for short circuits. A difference voltage other than zero is at least intermittently applied to the lines which carry switching signals. The actual difference voltage between two lines is essentially continuously determined and a fault recognition signal representative of a short circuit between the two lines is produced when the measured difference voltage plot or the measured difference voltage differs from a predetermined reference voltage plot or from a predetermined reference voltage. An apparatus including a signal generator and an evaluation circuit determines when the measured voltage plot or voltage differs from the reference voltage or reference voltage plot and generates a signal with which the electric lines can be interrupted.
