    • An inductive coupler for power line communication includes a clamp type housing having two semicircular housing members having semicircular accommodating spaces formed therein, respectively, and hinge-engaged with each other so that the housing members are detachably coupled to a power line, one of the housing members having a connection terminal provided thereon; semicircular air-cores respectively accommodated in the semicircular accommodating spaces of the housing members of the housing; and wires wound on the semicircular air-cores, respectively, both end parts of the wire being connected to the connection terminal. The wires may be braided wires of plural strands, and metal thin films are adhesively fixed to inner walls of the semicircular housing members. Protective coating layers are formed on the wires to prevent changes with elapsed time and damage of the wires.

    • A satellite broadcasting receiving system includes an outdoor unit and an indoor unit. The outdoor unit is integrally constituted by a primary feed horn (10A), a polarization switching device (10B) and a BS converter (10). The indoor unit includes a BS tuner portion (12), a power source (24) and an interface portion (14). From the outdoor unit to the indoor unit, an intermediate frequency signal is transmitted through a coaxial cable (11). From the indoor unit to the outdoor unit through the same cable, a power source voltage for driving the BS converter and a control pulse signal for switching between a horizontally polarized wave receiving state and a vertically polarized wave receiving state by a polarization switching means are transmitted superimposed on each other.

    • Disclosed is a polarization converter (9) allowing one down converter to receive four types of polarizations of a horizontal polarization, a vertical polarization, a right-handed circular polarization and a left-handed circular polarization without deteriorating a pass loss characteristic and a return loss characteristic (VSWR characteristic) of an antenna apparatus as a whole. The polarization converter (9) includes a circular waveguide (20) having dielectric plate (8) for converting a circular polarization to a linear polarization, a ferrite pole (10) for changing the direction of the electric field of the linear polarization and a coil (11), all of which are integrally provided therein. As a result, the design is easily obtained which optimizes the return loss characteristic (VSWR characteristic) of the entire antenna apparatus, which allows one converter to receive said four types of polarizations without deteriorating the pass loss characteristic and the return loss characteristic (VSWR characteristic) of the entire antenna apparatus.

    • An antenna arrangement for receiving television signals from a satellite comprises a parabolic (5) which collects the signals and feeds them through a feedhorn (6), then through a polarisation switch (8) and a low noise block to the receiver. The polarisation switch (8) comprises a ferrite rod (16) supported in a dielectric holder (18) within a circular waveguide (14). The ferrite rod (16) is surrounded by a solenoid coil (19) which is energisable to rotate the plane of polarisation of the signals passed along the waveguide, so as to enable the switch to select either horizonally or vertically polarised signals. The current in the coil (19) is switchable between two values, one having a predetermined magnitude in one direction through the coil and the other having the same predetermined magnitude but in the opposite direction through the coil. The current levels are selected such that the corresponding angular positions for the plane of polarisation are +45° relative to the datum position for the Polarisation plane and -45° with reference to this datum position. The dielectric holder (18) has a stepped configuration so as to match the loaded waveguide to the empty waveguide.
