摘要： A process for making thin-film batteries including the steps of cleaning a glass or silicon substrate having an amorphous oxide layer several microns thick; defining with a mask the layer shape when depositing cobalt as an adhesion layer and platinum as a current collector; using the same mask as the preceding step to sputter a layer of LiCoO2 on the structure while rocking it back and forth; heating the substrate to 300° C. for 30 minutes; sputtering with a new mask that defines the necessary electrolyte area; evaporating lithium metal anodes using an appropriate shadow mask; and, packaging the cell in a dry-room environment by applying a continuous bead of epoxy around the active cell areas and resting a glass slide over the top thereof. The batteries produced by the above process are disclosed.

摘要： An electrochemical generator comprising thin films including a positive electrode and its collector, and a sheet of a host metal intended to later on constitute a negative electrode, as well as an electrolyte which is conductive towards alkaline ions and also a source of alkali ions. The sheet of the host metal has voids whose quantity and arrangement are capable of locally absorbing any lateral expansion of the sheet of host metal and thereby substantially preventing all cumulative change in the plane of the sheet of host metal when there is an initial formation of alloy in the sheet between the host metal and an alkali metal which is brought about by the alkaline ions. A method of manufacturing such a generator is also described.

摘要： The instant specification discloses a flat battery constituted by sealing a power generation element with: a case that works as one electrode terminal; a sealing plate that works as the other electrode terminal and has a flat central section projected outward and a flat peripheral section extending substantially parallel to the flat central section; and a gasket that insulates the case from the sealing plate, characterized in that the peripheral section of the sealing plate has an outer circumferential part being bent, or the case has a turned edge provided to make the peripheral section of the sealing plate fitted therein via the gasket and to partly press the gasket. The flat battery of the present invention having improvement in shape of the sealing plate and/or the case is sufficiently thin and exerts the effects of high leakage resistance and excellent mass productivity.

摘要： An electrochemical cell having a cell package made of a metallic material to allow the cell package to be sealed by welding, even when contaminated. The electrochemical cell further includes an electrode cell stack and a metallic cell package having a base portion and a lid portion which are welded to each other (peripheral seam) to define an enclosure. The cell package includes a first section for receiving the cell stack and a second section having an inlet port and a degassing port which communicate with the first section. The lid portion is welded to the base portion to form a weld seam located between the first and second sections to seal off the first section from the second section. The weld seam extends from the peripheral seam on a first side of the cell package to the peripheral seam on a second side of the cell package.
