摘要： A method of making an electrode structure for use in an electric cell, comprising feeding a ribbon of a substrate carrier material to a layering device, applying to spaced areas of the carrier material a spread of electrode material to form spaced layered areas thereon, causing the spread to become attached to the carrier material, deforming the layered carrier material to form layered areas thereof in substantially opposing relationship interconnected by layer free areas, and locating at least some of the layer free areas in support means to form a multi-plate electrode structure. The carrier material is preferably reticulated material inert to the cell materials, and may be expanded metal of Groups IV(A) and V(A) of the Periodic Table of Mendeleef, e.g. titanium, and the electrode material spread may be a paste-like electrically conducting material incorporating porous carbon for example a particulate carbon crumb with an inert binder such as polyvinyl polymer. The method is preferably continuous.

摘要： Composite Ni powder is prepd. by (I) evenly coating a particulate inert or electrically conducting core material with a Ni salt, (2) heating coated material to convert Ni salt to NiO, (3) heating NiO-coated core material in a reducing atmos. to convert NiO to Ni metal with formation of a powdery or particulate composite material. The Ni powder is used for sintered plates for alkali batteries. Costs are reduced by replacing carbonyl Ni powder, at least in part, without impairing porosity, conductivity and strength of plates.

摘要： The energy storage capacity of an amorphous carbon electrode is increased (up to almost doubled) by (a) heating at 700-1000 degrees C under a partial vacuum, (b) subjecting to vapours of an additive including >=1 of tellurium halide, tungsten halides, sulphur halides, tungsten oxychlorides, sulphur oxychlorides, and elemental sulphur at a slightly positive press. and at a temp. between additive b.pt. and 1000 degrees C, (c) charge-discharge cycling the electrode in a fused salt electrolyte contg. >=1 alkali metal or alkaline earth metal halide with a second electrode contg. Al, esp. Al-Li alloy. The electrode is useful as a reversible positive electrode in cell as used for conditioning.
