    • At one of the vacuum tube is disposed an opaque photocathode receiving light from a window in the other end of the tube along a light axis which is spaced from and parallel to the axis of the tube. An accelerating mesh adjacent the photocathode rapidly accelerates the light produced photoelectrons in cooperation with an oblique electron lens along a path having an angle which is oblique to the light axis and tube axis toward a target or readout device. A field mesh adjacent the readout device accelerates the photoelectrons after being deflected by deflection plates to the readout device to provide an output photoelectron streak image thereon.

    • 1502521 Measuring concentration of aerosol particles SOC NATIONALE DES PETROLES D'AQUITAINE 8 Jan 1976 [15 Jan 1975] 00641/76 Heading G1G [Also in Division H1] A device for measuring the mass of particles of an aerosol per unit volume comprises a vibratable body 3 having a planar surface 2 partially covered by a planar particle receiving electrode 4, a point electrode 1 having an axis perpendicular to the plane of the body 3 and which is separated from the electrode 4 by 3 to 15 mm, a source 5 of high voltage d.c. having its positive terminal connected to the electrode 1, and means 6 for measuring the resonant frequency of the body 3, the body 3 and the point electrode 1 being arranged in a conduit 8 coaxial with the electrode 1, the conduit having an air inlet nozzle 9 adjacent point 7 of electrode 1 and an outlet 10 opposite said point. It is stated that the connection of the electrode 1 to the positive side of the high voltage d.c. source creates sufficient "electrical wind" to dispense with the need for an air pump and results in less deterioration of the point electrode. The source 5 preferably has means for maintaining the current intensity constant and a resistor (16) is preferably arranged between the source 5 and the electrode 1, Fig. 5 (not shown). As particularly described, the body 3 is constituted by a Piezo-electric quartz blade and the electrode 1 is formed of tungsten steel or stainless steel, the end preferably being formed of tungsten. The measuring means 6 is in the form of an oscillator. As shown in Fig. 7, which shows a plan view of the plane X-X of the device shown in Fig. 6, two chambers 86A and 86B are provided, chamber 86A constituting a measuring cell, and chamber 86B consituting a reference cell and thus having the nozzle 9 and outlet 10 thereof closed. The vibratable body 3A, 3B in each chamber is circular and each has a pair of arcuate electrodes 26A, 27A, 26B, 27B attached thereto. These electrodes are connected by leads 24A, 25A, 24B, 25B to a pair of oscillators 6A and 6B which are in turn connected to a mixer 28 where output is connected to a frequency meter 29.
