    • The invention concerns a method and device for producing magnetic recording media with a disoriented particulate magnetic layer applied to a non-magnetic layer carrier. For the purpose of disorientation, the magnetic layer containing magnetically anisotropic pigments, after being applied to the layer carrier, is first oriented perpendicular to the plane of the magnetic layer by means of a unipolar magnetic field constant in time. The still-liquid magnetic layer is then passed into a field-free space where the layer is disoriented before it starts to dry. The device according to the invention comprises a magnetic arrangement which is mounted in a mirror-symmetrical manner either side of the layer carrier and generates a unipolar magnetic field oriented perpendicular to the plane of the magnetic layer. According to the invention, disc-shaped magnetic recording media can be produced from particulate magnetic layers without any portion of the reading voltage amplitude being dependent on orientation.
