Chimes are simulated by placing an electrical pick-up in an electrically-driven musical box, amplifying the signals from the pick-up and playing them through a loud-speaker. The power source is connected to the motor through a controlling switch (22), Fig. 4 (not shown) which may be a push-button, shunted by offnormal contacts 4 operated by a cam (9) on the drum of the musical box. When the controlling switch (22) is closed, the drum turns, the musical box plays and the chimes sound. As long as the controlling switch is closed, the drum continues to revolve, but if it is opened the drum stops when the cam opens the contacts 4. The motor 2 drives the drum 6, pins on which engage reeds 10 and cause signals to be generated in the pick-up coil 3. The apparatus may be driven from batteries or from an external A.C. source.
