    • A parking guidance and management system. The system provides graphical information regarding the relative availability of parking spaces within a parking garage or other large facility. The system relies on a pair of sensors in each space which combine to provide highly reliable information regarding whether spaces in the facility are occupied or not. The information is gathered by a series of aisle controllers, which communicate with a central computer. The information is displayed at strategically located displays along the way to available spaces. The displays contain advertising messages adjacent to the information about space availability. The information obtained from the sensors at each parking space may be used to provide information to the manager of the facility regarding space utilization. Information regarding the occupancy status of each space may also be used as a check on receipts of parking fees and to identify abandoned vehicles.

    • A parking aid for a motor vehicle, which measures the distance between an object and the motor vehicle in a contactless manner and has a plurality of sensors which are arranged on the motor vehicle, each sensor emitting a signal and receiving the signal reflected from an object located in the direction of the beam, and an evaluation device connected to the sensors determining the distance between the object and the motor vehicle from the signals received. The outlay for electrically synchronizing the sensors is reduced and which nevertheless allows reliable detection of the actual object for accurate measurement of the distance, has three sensors which are arranged directly next to one another to provide approximate coverage of the same detection area, whereby the main beam of each sensor having approximately the same beam angle.

    • The invention is directed to an electronic parking meter and a method of configuring an electronic parking meter. In addition to a meter housing and an electronic metering mechanism within the housing, the parking meter includes a memory positioned within the housing separate from the electronic metering mechanism for storing configuration information associated with a pre-selected group of one or more electronic meters. When the electronic metering mechanism is replaced, the replacement metering mechanism that is inserted into the housing need only be coupled to the separate memory in order to have the configuration information of the specific meter downloaded into it. The configuration information includes parking meter location information and/or parking restriction information. The separate memory, which may include a real time clock chip and may alternately be located in the meter's electronic lock, can also be used to store current meter status information that is accessible from the exterior of the meter housing.

    • A parking lot guidance system guides parking lot users to empty parking spaces in a large-scale parking lot in a way that is easy for the user to understand. The parking lot guidance system N has vehicle detection units 1 for detecting vehicles parked in parking spaces, a control unit 2 for generating parking space availability data for the parking lot based on detection results from the vehicle detection units 1, a parking lot map storage unit 3 for storing maps of the parking lot, an empty space data storage unit 4 for storing the empty parking space data generated by the control unit 2, and data transmitters 6 for sending the empty parking space data to optical beacons 5 located at various places throughout the parking lot. The parking lot is preferably divided into multiple parking blocks, and data indicating whether any of those blocks as an available parking space is sent to vehicles V. When entering a specific parking block, data indicating the location of available parking spaces are sent to the vehicles. These data are sent to the vehicles by optical beacons 5, and presented pictorially on an on-board display in the vehicles.
