    • A method implemented by a computer network adapter for automatic retransmission of any packet involved in an unsuccessful transmission attempt due to transmit buffer underflow conditions entails the steps of (a) stopping the transmission; and (b) retrying another transmission of the packet for up to a predetermined number of attempts with an increased transmit threshold. The transmit threshold is the number of bytes of data of the packet involved in the transmission that are stored in the transmit buffer prior to start of transmission. Preferably, for the initial transmission attempt, the adapter requires only a small number of bytes of the packet to be stored in the transmit buffer. After occurrence of a buffer underflow condition, the adapter attempts a retry in accordance with the algorithm only after a substantially larger portion of the packet has entered the transmit buffer for transmission. If any retry succeeds, the adapter need not issue an interrupt.

    • A web-based hosted solution through which application developers create, manage and monitor application usage analytics in an online manner. Preferably, an application under test is one of: application software, a script-enabled web application, or a rich Internet application (RIA). During the development process, a usage monitoring API is integrated into the application and the application is deployed. As users interact with the application, a log file is generated, typically in one of two ways. If the application is able to write to a local file system (in the user's machine), usage information is gathered in a log file local to the deployed application and then dispatched to an upload server for processing in a batch manner. If the application is not able to write to the user machine's local file system, the usage information is sent to a remote logging server, preferably on a just-in-time basis, and then the log file is generated on the logging server. In either case, preferably the usage information that is tracked comprises “features,” “faults” and “failures” of the application, independent of platform, location, and number of deployed application instances.

    • A method for updating antivirus files on a computer using push technology is disclosed. In a preferred embodiment, updated virus signature files or other updated antivirus information is loaded onto a central antivirus server, while local push agent software is installed on the client computer. When the user of the client computer is connected to the Internet, the push agent software operates in the background to receive updated antivirus files from the central antivirus sever across the Internet, in a manner which is substantially transparent to the user. In another preferred embodiment, antivirus files on a plurality of client computers on a corporate computer network are automatically updated using push technology and automated network installation scripts. A service computer associated with the plurality of client computers receives one or batches of antivirus updates from a central antivirus server across the Internet using push technology. An automatic installation script is executed to install the antivirus updates on the client computers of the corporate computer network with a minimum of involvement from a corporate system administrator or, optionally, no involvement from the corporate system administrator.

Session information, which is given every time log information is processed and included in the log information held by a server, is recorded in a session-information management table. In addition, how session information associates with others among different pieces of log information is recorded in a session-information association table. Recursively searching the session-information association table by use of session information specified by a user through a target log entry input unit enables identification of a set of session information relating to the processing to which the user pays attention. Information corresponding to each of the session information related is collected from log information, and is integrated according to the recorded data and time of a log.
