    • A production and inventory control for a manufacturing facility is provided that facilitates and coordinates improved planning and execution of such facility in a supply chain with a focus on providing an improved and robust planning, production and inventory control, even in the presence of uncertainty. This may include Optimal Planning that can balance the need for low inventory, low cost (i.e., high utilization of equipment and labor), and efficient on-time delivery. The result of such planning is not a schedule per se but a set of parameters that form a dynamic policy that generates an evolving schedule as conditions (demand, production) materialize. An Optimal Execution applies the dynamic policy resulting in a manufacturing system that is robust enough to accommodate moderate changes in demand and/or capacity without the need to reschedule. Optimal Execution may also involve a “Capacity Trigger” that detects when the assumptions regarding demand and capacity used to determine the dynamic policy are no longer valid. The Capacity Trigger also may provide a Trigger Signal to the planner indicating the need for either more or less capacity.

    • A method and system provide for the sensing of objects under water where the acoustic energy is suitably focused or directed so that reverberation returns are minimized. A vertical source array of adjustable acoustic sources is located in the water body, with each acoustic source producing a separate acoustic pulse or continuous wave controlled by a control device. The control device controls a phase and amplitude of the separate acoustic pulses such that a waveform (combined acoustic pulse) with selective nodes adjustable to a desired depth is emitted. A calibration device is also located at a distance from the source array for calibrating the separate acoustic pulses or continuous wave so that the source array emits a desired waveform. The calibration device includes a checking device for determining whether the emitted waveform conforms to the desired waveform and for calculating a deviation of the emitted waveform from the desired waveform. The calibration device also includes a feedback device for feeding deviation information back to the control device which further controls each acoustic source in accordance with the deviation information so that the desired waveform is produced. The control device controls the sources to generate continuous waves and/or combined pulses focused to a desired depth domain or a desired range-and-depth cell in the water body.

    • Techniques are described for facilitating automated validation of results of performance of tasks. In some situations, task requesters may specify various automated validation criteria for tasks that they submit, and those specified validation criteria may automatically be used to determine whether results of performance of those tasks by task performers are validated. To facilitate such automated validation, predefined types of validation criteria may be provided that a user may select and/or configure. The outcome of automated validation of results may be used in various ways, such as to indicate when results have been validated and/or have not been validated, to determine whether to provide results to a task requester (e.g., if results are not provided unless they have been validated, or if results that fail validation are corrected or replaced with results that pass validation) and/or to compensate task performers for providing the results.

    • An attention direction of a robot, indicated by a face, eyes or the like thereof, can be aligned with a directivity direction of a microphone array. Specifically, an acoustic signal from a sound source can be captured, and input signals for individual microphones can be generated. A direction of the sound source can be estimated from the input signals. A visual line of the robot, a posture thereof, or both, can be controlled such that the attention direction of the robot coincides with the direction of the sound source. Then, the directivity direction of the microphone array can be aligned with the attention direction. Thereafter, voice recognition can be performed with an input of a delay sum corresponding to the directivity direction.

    • The present invention provides an optimized system and method for electronically operating a call center. The system includes three major logical components, including a technology component with one or more third party software products, an in-house tools component, and a knowledge management component.
