    • A measuring mechanism for a wide-angle moving coil measuring system and a method for its assembly. The mechanism includes concentrically arranged inner and outer pole rings. The rings terminate in arms between which a slot or spacing is arranged. The spacing is accessible from outside the mechanism in which spacing is a pre-assembled movable part having an axle or two axle-stubs, and moving coil frame is inserted into the internal space of the inner pole ring. The magnets are arranged to be positive-locked with the pole rings. Two arrangements of magnets cooperating with the pole rings are disclosed. Various embodiments and methods of assembly are disclosed.

    • A moving-coil electrical instrument in which an electric coil mounted for angular displacement about an axis embraces an annular core which is disposed between radially-spaced walls of a housing to define two radially-spaced, annular air-gaps through which extend the inner and outer limbs respectively of the coil. The inner air-gap is made shorter (in the direction of the lines of magnetic flux) than the outer air-gap, so that any change in the force induced into the outer limb of the coil, arising from, for example, radial misplacement of the core, is accompanied by a greater change in the force induced into the inner limb. Thus the difference in the radial distances from the axis of the inner and outer limbs is offset, and the changes in the torques induced into the inner and outer limbs balance one another. Alternatively, or additionally, the inner air-gap may be made wider (measured parallel to the respective limb of the coil) than the outer air-gap.

    • In a moving-coil electrical instrument the electric coil is rotatably mounted on a spindle for angular displacement about the axis of the spindle. The ends of the spindle are located in respective bearings disposed in apertures of a frame and each bearing has a part that is angularly displaceable about the axis of the spindle between a first angular position in which the part supports the spindle and a second angular position in which that part is removable from the respective aperture. The coil is mounted on a support through which the spindle extends and carries a body to counter-balance the coil. The center of mass of this body is spaced from the plane which includes both the center of mass of the coil and the spindle axis. The support also carries a counterpoise body that is spaced from the counter-balance body about the spindle axis.

    • A taut band type instrument comprising a support member supporting thereon a moving coil, a pair of clips electrically connected to the moving coil and mounted on the support member in mutually spaced relation, a pair of upper and lower boss stoppers each having an integral cylindrical portion with a recess defined axially therein and mounted on a bridge, a pair of tension springs mounted respectively on the boss stoppers, a taut band attached to and disposed between the tension springs under a predetermined tension, and soldered to the clips so as to be positioned in the cylindrical portions of the boss stoppers through the recesses therein, a pointer attachment joined to the support member, and a pointer attached to the pointer attachment. The taut band is cut between the clips after it has been soldered to the clips.

    • A long-scale meter movement of the type in which one leg of the moving coil oprates within an annular gap between an outer pole and a cylindrical core. In the new meter movement, the outer pole is integral with the return ring, in a generally circular configuration. The coil support frame is likewise of unitary construction, with a central portion extending through the return ring in the region of the magnet block and having integral coil pivot supports front and rear. The central frame portion has an aperture for the magnet block, with separate supports for the core extending through the aperture in interlocking relation with the frame. The construction of the parts is such that the frame, coil, core and magnet may be fitted together to form a subassembly which is inserted as a unit into the one-piece outer pole and return ring.
