    • A gunsight reticle defines a system of dimensioned indicia spaced at specific separations to improve aiming accuracy of a rifle. The indicia include perpendicularly intersecting center vertical and center horizontal hairlines, and four horizontal range-marker lines disposed at specific angular separations below the horizontal hairline in bisected relationship with the center vertical hairline. Spacing of the range marker lines below the center horizontal hairline is proportional to bullet drop at selected ranges, depending upon ballistic characteristics of bullet used. Relative lengths of said range-marker bars on each side of the central vertical crosshair are proportional to a cross-wind of 10 mph at target range reflected by respective range marker. The method involves employing this reticle to determine distance to target, and using distance thus determined to ascertain a precise aiming point on the reticle. These indicia also have other useful characteristics that allow the shooter to easily mentally calculate corrections for crosswind, moving target and shooting at targets that are above or below the shooter at a significant angle.

    • A quick focusing firearm scope includes an elongated tubular scope housing mounted to the upper surface of the firearm barrel. A focusing gear is provided in place of the conventional rotating focusing ring found on conventional scopes. Mounted adjacent to and engaging the focusing gear is a drive gear having a cable attached thereto. The opposing end of the cable extends through a support member that is mounted to the firearm trigger guard. Pivotally attached to the support member is a trigger member having an arcuate gear attached to the upper end thereof that engages a rotary gear on the cable. The lower end of the trigger member includes a loop that receives a shooter's trigger finger. Accordingly, a shooter may quickly focus the scope by pivoting the trigger member with the index finger.

    • The disclosed invention is a rail cover for use on mounting rails typically, though not exclusively, used on personal firearms. The covers may be made to fit either Picatinny or Weaver type rails and feature a clipping structure on the cover's underside that grasps the rail while the tension in the cover body holds the cover in place. Two preferred embodiments disclose a solid cover and a low profile, ribbed cover that nests within transverse grooves in some rails. Alternatively, a restraining beam may be utilized to further restrain the clipping structure and retain the cover on the rail.

    • A scope mounting system includes a one or two-piece base and a plurality of scope support assemblies. Mating portions of the base and scope support assemblies have parallel v-notches engaged with parallel flat lands to set the position of each support assembly relative to the sighting direction of a weapon to which the base is attached. The “flat land to v-notch” interengagement guarantees that the flat portions of all v-notches will engage one another to prevent movement along the weapon's sighting direction. Each scope support assembly clamps to the base in a way that prevents movement thereof in a two-dimensional plan perpendicular to the weapon's sighting direction.

    • The invention comprises a rifle scope having an adjustment sighting mechanism, the mechanism itself, and methods of making and using the rifle scope and adjustment mechanism. The rifle scope includes an inner and an outer tube, the outer tube mounted on the rifle and the inner tube being sealed within the outer tube. The inner tube is fixed in a ball-type joint at one end, with the other end free and having positioned therein an erector lens or a reticle. An adjustment mechanism adjusts the sight of the rifle scope by displacing the second end of the inner tube. The adjustment mechanism includes a threaded adjustment plunger that is rotationally fixed with respect to the body of the scope. The adjustment plunger threads to a rotating member having a threaded portion. As the rotating member rotates, the adjustment plunger, being prevented from rotating, moves in a direction perpendicular to the axis of rotation of the rotating member. As the threaded adjustment plunger moves inward or outward with respect to the outer tube, it adjusts the position of the inner tube, which is biased against the adjustment plunger by a spring. The rotating member is rotated by a dial, having an engaged position in which rotating the dial moves the adjustment plunger and a disengaged position in which rotating the dial does not move the adjustment plunger. The disengaged position is used to reset the zero on the dial after the rifle is sighted in at a particular distance.

    • A vertical adjustment mechanism for weapon's sights such as riflescopes that includes moveable indicator flags for indicating zeros at various ranges. These flags can be moved independently and are separated by spacers that are keyed to the central shaft in to prevent the movement of one flag from disturbing the setting of the other flags. The adjustment also includes a graduated dial that indicated angular change in the adjustment to facilitate the setting of the indicator flags and to provide a zero point for orienting the system. Once adjusted, the entire assembly is locked together by tightening screws that clamp the separate pieces together so it will function as if it was a single unit. The adjustment mechanism can be applied to the internal components of a telescopic sight or to an external mount.
