    • A heat exchanger module, such as a solar collector module, comprising a tube sheet (3) connected to a header (4). The tube sheet (3) passes through an opening in the header (4) so that the end of the sheet (5) protrudes a distance into the header (4), the header opening being united to the surface of the tube sheet (3) so that the tendency of the tube sheet (3) to burst or split open in the region of the junction of the tube sheet and header is minimised when the module is under fluid pressure. By the term "tube sheet" is meant a substantially planar sheet having an upper and a lower plastic membrane interconnected by a series of spaced division walls thereby forming a series of tubes arranged generally in a flat plane across the sheet, the tubes being continuous through the sheet and open at the two opposite ends of the sheet. The term also includes a sheet of circular tubes joined in side-by-side relationship.

    • A heat transmission pipe (1) is bent at a plurality of positions into a zig-zag form. A plurality of such zig-zag heat transmission pipes (1) are horizontally arranged side by side. A stack of horizontally arranged heat transmission pipes (1) is so formed that the spacings between the heat transmission pipes (1) are as small as possible. The end parts of the heat transmission pipes (1) are bent at different positions near a pipe plate (2) and inserted into the pipe plate (2). Since the heat transmission pipes (1) are stacked with very small spacings, when liquid which is sprayed onto the horizontal heat transmission pipes flows down from pipe to pipe, the liquid is spread in the direction of the heat transmission pipe by capillarity and the whole surfaces of the heat transmission pipes are well wetted. Consequently, the heat transmissivity can be improved and the size of an absorption water cooler/heater can be reduced.

    • The invention relates to a method of fabricating a heat exchanger which comprises the steps of: heat forming (via tool 104) edge portions of holes in a plastic material sheet (101) having a plurality of holes (102) to extend through and line holes in an adjacent metal sheet (43) having holes which concentrically register with respective holes in said plastic sheet (101), thereby to form a plastic-lined metal sheet assembly; inserting plug means (48) in each hole (102) before the plastic lining (101, 103, 105) has cooled to limit diametrical reduction of the plastic-lined holes, spacing a pair of said plastic-lined metal sheet assemblies (101, 43) securedly apart and parallel to each other; and entering an end of a plastic covered tube (48) successively through a plastic-lined hole in each of said plastic-lined metal sheet assemblies (101, 43) sufficiently shortly after removal of the plug means (48) from said holes that the progressive diametrical reduction of said plastic-lined holes allows said end to be entered through said plastic-lined holes but then causes said plastic-lined holes to grip and securedly locate said plastic-covered tube (48). The invention also relates to heat exchanger apparatus, comprising, in combination: a pair of side members (40, 41) and a pair of metal end sheets (43) defining a generally rectangular housing, each of said end sheets (43) having a plurality of holes; a pair of plastic sheets (101) covering the inside surfaces of respective ones of said end sheets (43) with portions of said plastic sheets (101) extending through each of said holes (102) in said end sheets (43) to the outside of the end sheets (43); and a plurality of metal tubes (48) having plastics material protective exterior coverings, each of said metal tubes (48) extending through respective holes (102) in both of said end sheets (43) and being mechanically secured in place by the gripping of its exterior plastic covering by the portions (103, 104) of the plastic sheets (101) which extend through the end sheet holes through which the metal tubes (48) extend.

    • The present invention relates to apparatus for hydraulically expanding metal tubes of the type which employs an insertion mandrel carrying fluid into the tube with deformable sealing means axially located on either side of the fluid insertion point. In the prior art, deformation of the seal has been uncontrolled, resulting in occasions of asymmetrical extrusion of the seal into the gap between mandrel and tube, ruining the seal, interfering with removal of the mandrel, and resulting further in asymmetric tube expansion. The present invention provides a metal sleeve slidable on the mandrel to control centering of the seal, providing uniform axial deformation of the seal whereby radial expansion of the seal is made uniform about the circumference of the mandrel and extrusion of the seal into the gap is prevented.
