    • A respiratory apparatus is provided including a liquid ventilator. The primary components of the apparatus include a ventilator, control valve, and chiller/oxygenator. The invention utilizes a closed loop circulation of a breathable liquid to provide liquid ventilation and pulmonary cooling. The ventilator is a dual-chambered device which may be hand or machine actuated. A dual compression force is applied to the ventilator which induces a patient's inspiration of oxygenated and cooled liquid from an inspiration chamber, and simultaneously induces transfer of oxygen depleted, heated liquid into the oxygenator/chiller from an expiration chamber. Upon release of the compression force, the ventilator returns to its normally open or uncompressed state inducing evacuation of the liquid from the patient's lungs into the expiration chamber and flow of re-oxygenated and chilled liquid into the inspiration chamber of the ventilator, thus readying the ventilator for the next inspiration phase.

    • A method and apparatus for controlling a temperature of a microelectronic substrate. In one embodiment, the apparatus can include a substrate support configured to engage and support the microelectronic substrate. The apparatus can further include a temperature controller having one or more thermal links coupled directly with the substrate when the substrate is supported by the substrate support. The thermal links can maintain thermal contact with the substrate when the substrate is either stationary or mobile relative to the temperature controller. The temperature controller can heat or cool different portions of the substrate at different rates with one or more of several heat transfer devices, including liquid jets, gas jets, resistive electrical elements and/or thermoelectric elements.

    • A disposable aerosol generator for use with an inhaler device which includes a heater adapted to volatilize fluid stored in the disposable aerosol generator and method of using the inhaler. The disposable body includes a sealed chamber and an outlet, the chamber being located between first and second layers of material. The chamber holds a predetermined volume of a fluid which is expelled through the outlet when the fluid in the chamber is volatilized by the heater. The disposable body can include a series of spaced apart aerosol generators, each of which can be advanced to a release position at which the heater can heat one of the fluid containing chambers. Prior to heating the fluid, the outlet can be formed by severing the first and/or second layer with a piercing element and the volatilized fluid can be expelled from the outlet into a passage of a dispensing member.

    • A closure (30) for a container is designed to facilitate the mixing of a first material within the container with a second material within the closure at the point of use. The first and second materials are generally chemically reactive. The plastics material closure (30) has a base (32) and a lid (34). The base (32), which is circular, has an annular peripheral rim (36) defining an annular recess (38) by which the closure (30) may be clipped onto a container (10). Radially inwardly of the rim (36) is an upstanding peripheral wall (40) defining a chamber (42) for containing the second material. A plunger (44) is affixed to the base (32) centrally of a convex button (50). When mixing of the first and second materials is required, the container (10) is positioned so that the base (32) of the closure is uppermost, and the button (50) is pressed to move the plunger (44) to push the lid (34) out of the opening of the chamber (42).
