    • To provide a rotary damper having a compact shape with a short axial length and capable of absorbing an extremely high torque acting temporarily in the case of a door abruptly closing. In a rotary damper (1) in which a rotary member (5) includes: a basement portion (6) axially supported by a drive shaft (4); a torque adjustor (7) capable of relatively moving on the drive shaft (4); a slide member (8) positioned through and facing the torque adjustor (7); and a spring (9) for energizing the slide member (8) to a cam, the slide member (8) is moved in the radial direction by relatively moving the torque adjustor (7) to a position having a predetermined angle against the drive shaft (4), and a predetermined radial clearance is formed between an outer surface (8b) of the slide member (8) and an inner peripheral surface (3a) of a chamber, thereby changing the clearance to change a torque generated by the rotation of the rotational member (5).

    • The invention relates to hydrodynamic machine, especially a hydrodynamic retarder, comprising a housing, components of the hydrodynamic machine being disposed within the housing, and a balancing element. The housing being constructed of a housing material having a coefficient of thermal expansion, which may be greater than a coefficient of thermal expansion at least one of the components. The balancing element having a coefficient of thermal expansion, which may be about that or greater than the coefficient of thermal expansion of the housing material. Also, the balancing element may be axially adjustable with respect to the housing to engage at least one of the components so as to equalize a gap during heating of the hydrodynamic machine.

    • A rotatable hydraulic damper includes a tubular fixed member and a shaft has a section rotatably received in the fixed member. A sleeve is rotatably engaged with the inner periphery of the fixed member and mounted to the section of the shaft. A passage is defined longitudinally through the shaft and a cap is mounted to the section of the shaft and seals the open end of the fixed member. Two chambers are respectively defined in the fixed member and separated by the sleeve. A plurality of longitudinal grooves are defined in an inside of the sleeve and an end of the sleeve is sealed by a bead urged by a spring. The hydraulic oil in the two chambers flows through the sleeve at different speeds so that the pivotable object closes slower than it is opened.

    • The invention concerns a spring barrel module having two chambers. A spring is located in the first chamber and a damper in the second chamber. The unidirectional damper is implemented by a clutch means that connects the damper plate to the spring shaft when the tightened spring is released, whereby the rotation of the damper slows down. Correspondingly, the clutch loosens the connection between the damper plate and the spring shaft when the spring is tightened. In low temperatures (e.g. below 0° C. degrees) the damper fails to dampen the rotation. The unidirectional feature of the damper improves both usability and durability. Breakage of the mechanical components of the spring barrel is prevented by an overload clutch, which means that the spring barrel module will tolerate even relatively rough handling of the equipment.
