    • A two piece tack rivet includes a stem and a locking collar. The stem has a head at a first end, a grooved stem region extending from an opposing second end toward the first end, and a cylindrical section between the head and the grooved stem region. The cylindrical section includes a plurality of spin prevention embellishments such as knurls or spline-like surface textures. The cylin spin prevention embellishments may be adapted to provide positive engagement in a hole in a work piece. The locking collar is hollow and adapted to be deformably joined to the grooved stem region. The locking collar may include a flange adapted to bear against an adjacent surface of the work piece.

    • A fastener for installation into a workpiece which may be installed by either a swaging operation or a torquing operation. The fastener includes an enlarged protruding head which is proximal to a substantially cylindrical smooth shank portion. A threaded shank portion positioned distal to the smooth shank portion includes a male thread which is sufficiently strong to have a swage collar swaged onto it. Distal to the threaded shank portion is a pin tail portion having a surface which is configured to engage a tool. Positioned between the threaded shank portion and the pin tail portion is a breakneck groove having a lower tensile strength than any other portion of the fastener. The tensile strength of the breakneck groove is controlled such that the fastener severs within the breakneck groove when a preset range of tension is applied to the pin tail portion by the tool.

    • There is provided a blind rivet (10) comprising an axially extending hollow tubular body (18) having a tail end face (22) at one end and a pre-formed radially enlarged flange (20) at the other end, together with a mandrel (30) having a stem (32) which extends co-axially though the body (18) and having enlarged head adjacent the tail end (22) of the body, the stem having a weakened region immediately adjacent the head, whereby the mandrel head having an outer diameter greater than an outer diameter of said body, usually by between 4% and 9%, and which has a uniform conical shoulder (38) extending between said outer diameter of the head and the stem (32), so as to exert a setting force having an axial component for compressing the rivet body axially and an angular component effecting conical deformation of the tail end radially. There is also provided a method of fastening at least two workpieces using such a blind rivet (10), including providing the blind side of the workpieces with a countersunk region to accommodate the conically deformed tail end of the body after setting, substantially flush therewith.

    • A fastener having an integral drive nut includes a fastener body having a body head and an axial bore therethrough, a corebolt passing through the fastener body bore and having an outer end thereof extending above the body head, and an integral drive nut and cap nut assembly thereon. The drive nut is configured to fit around the outer end of the corebolt and in contact with the body head to restrain the fastener body from turning during rotation of the corebolt. The cap nut is configured to connect to the corebolt and urge the drive nut into engagement with the fastener body head. Thus, by providing a simplified integral drive nut and cap nut assembly, robotic and manual installation of the fastener is greatly enhanced as the present invention utilizes a construction that does not require time consuming and costly fitting and drive nut changes.
