    • A rotary pump for pumping compressible fluid comprising an eccentrically mounted rotor 20 and a stator 10. The stator 10 comprises a stator inner liner 80 that is free to rotate, driven directly or in response to rotation of the rotor 20 such that the relative velocity between the outer surface of the rotor 20 and the inner surface of the stator 10 is reduced. Opposing solid lubricant and hard surfaces are used on contact surfaces between the elements.

    • A rotary engine having end plates attached to a rotor and moving therewith. A rotor has a plurality of blades reciprocally mounted therein and placed within a housing. A chamber is formed between the blades, the rotor, the end plates, and a cylindrical stator. The end plates move with the rotor, thereby improving sealing. The structure permits easy assembly and manufacture and substantially reduces sealing problems associated with rotary engines.     • An anti-rotation device for a scroll compressor. The scroll compressor includes intermeshed and nested stationary and orbiting scroll elements which define at least one spiraling compression pocket therebetween and an orbital drive mechanism for driving the central axis of the orbiting scroll element about the central axis of the stationary scroll element. The anti-rotation device maintains the orbiting scroll element substantially non-rotational with respect to the stationary scroll element during its orbit thereabout and includes at least one anti-rotation bearing which includes a first bearing element mounted stationary with respect to the stationary scroll element, a second bearing element mounted on the orbiting scroll element and an offset crank member. The offset crank member has a first shaft portion rotatably engaging the first bearing element and a second shaft portion which is radially offset from the first shaft portion by a distance equal to the radius of orbit, is parallel thereto and rotatably engages the second bearing element. Preferably, the first and second bearing elements are rotational bearing components, the second shaft portion of the offset crank member non-rotatably engages, via a conically tapered fitting, a bushing member, which itself rotationally engages the second rotational bearing component, and at least three such anti-rotation bearings are disposed at equal angular displacements (e.g., 120°) about the central axis of the scroll compressor.

    • A scroll-type compressor includes a fixed first scroll member, an orbital second scroll member, and a ball coupling provided as a rotation preventing mechanism for the second scroll member. The ball coupling has a pair of plates integrally formed with ring-like ball rolling grooves and a plurality of balls disposed therebetween. The compressor comprises a driven crank mechanism creating a swing motion for producing an orbital movement of the second scroll member. The amount of variation of the swing angle due to the driven crank mechanism is set within a range predetermined in accordance with a diameter of a ring form of each of the ring-like ball rolling grooves. The variation of the orbital radius of the orbital movement of the second scroll member corresponding to the swing angle may be regulated within a most appropriate range, thereby preventing occurrence of problems in the rotation preventing mechanism with respect to abrasion, performance and durability.
