摘要： The invention relates to a prelubrication system (10) for an engine (12). It is desirable to prelubricate relatively large engines to prevent possible damage of certain components such as the crankshaft and camshaft bearings. Engines that must be started in a matter of seconds are provided with prelube pumps (78) that run continually. During long periods of continuous prelube lubrication fluid being pumped upward into the upper rocker arm area (44) may find its way into combustion chambers (34) and result in damage of engine components. The present system provides a fluid level control device (56) that prevents lubrication fluid from reaching the upper rocker arm area (44) of the engine (12) when the engine (12) is not running and disables the control device (56) when the engine is running allowing the supply of lubricant to reach the upper rocker arm area (44). The system further allows the engine (12) to be started when it is sensed that there is a sufficient supply of fluid in critical areas of the engine (12) and prevents the engine (12) from being started if the supply of fluid is insufficient.

摘要： A process is described to supply a liquid lubricant to the points to be lubricated of a reciprocating piston engine. The lubricant is led by a gaseous transport medium through supply ducts at least in the area of the point to be lubricated and is applied on the surfaces to be lubricated as small liquid particles. The lubricant and the transport medium are mixed in a conditioning device. The amount of lubricant is dosed by modifying the volume flow of transport medium and/or the concentration of lubricant in the transport medium. In order to lubricate the running surfaces of a piston/cylinder tube unit, the lubricant mixture is led through at least one supply bore arranged in the wall of the cylinder into the gap between the outer surface of the piston and the inner surface of the cylinder wall. The supply bore is arranged in such a way that it opens into the gap when the piston is at the bottom dead centre below the uppermost piston ring.
