    • An elongated pile sub-assembly having a support beam for attachment to a plurality of yarn bundles. Each of the yarn bundles attached to the beam have a pile end and a root end for anchoring the elongated pile sub-assembly. The root ends can also entangle its loose fibers for added anchoring support of the elongated pile sub-assembly. A guide assembly is used to form a rooted tuftstring article such as a brush or flooring article therefrom. The elongated pile sub-assembly may be used alone to make a brush or a pile or bristle surface structure such as a floor covering, a wall covering or an automotive component, or may be arranged with other elongated pile articles and attached to a backing substrate, as when used to make up a pile or bristle surface structure. A brush or pile surface structure may be fabricated from an elongated pile sub-assembly alone, or from the pile sub-assembly together with a brush body member or a backing substrate.

    • Pile weatherstripping (20) is provided by a flat pipe (10) of strands which are tensioned to spring outwardly to straight condition to provide a pile weatherstrip, when bent and inserted into a T-slot (26, 42, 46, or 56) or other kerf in a member such as a window or door frame or sash. The tendency of the bent parts of the pile (10) to spring away from each other facilitates retention of the pile after insertion into the slot. A locking fin (18), more rigid than the pile, is preferably used. This locking fin (18) engages steps or edges in the throat (28) of the slot thereby impeding withdrawal of the weatherstripping (20) from the slot. One or more barrier fins (22) may also be assembled with the strands constituting the flat pile (10). The pile (10) can be operated in bending mode or in columnar compression (crushing mode). Bending mode operation can be over a bending range so as to accommodate a large range of clearance between a sash and a frame or other members which are sealed by the pile weatherstripping (20). Parts of the pile (10) can have desired lateral spacing and angular orientation with respect to each other (contour) by using spacing and/or contour forming elements assembled with the flat pile.
