    • An anti-corrosion composition is prepared by reacting at 25-200 DEG C. a mixture of (A) 5-10 parts by weight of a grease prepared by mixing at 25-200 DEG C. a fluid mineral oil containing 10-70% of a carbonated, basic alkaline earth metal salt of one or more acids having at least 12 aliphatic carbon atoms per mol. selected from carboxylic and sulphonic acids, said salt having a metal ratio of at least 4.5, and 1-80% based on the salt of an active hydrogen reactant selected from lower aliphatic carboxylic acids, water, and aqueous alcohol containing up to 80% alcohol and (B) 1-2 parts of an acidic phosphorus-containing composition prepared by reacting at 50-200 DEG C. phosphorus pentoxide or a hydrate thereof and a phenolic reactant selected from aliphatic hydrocarbon substituted phenols and the reaction product of 0.2-12.5 mols. of a copolymer of allyl alcohol and a styrene with 0.3-5.0 mols. of an aliphatic hydrocarbon substituted phenol, the molar ratio of the phenolic reactant to the phosphorus pentoxide being 1:1 to 10:1. The composition may be mixed with a hydrocarbon resin, e.g. coumarone-indenes, polystyrenes, polymerized beta-pinenes and higher molecular weight polyisobutenes, and a hydrocarbon or halo-hydrocarbon solvent, e.g. 1,1,1-trichloroethane, benzene, toluene, mineral spirits and turpentine.ALSO:Acidic phosphorus-containing products employed in the preparation of greases are prepared by reacting at 50-200 DEG C. phosphorus pentoxide or phosphoric acid with an aliphatic hydrocarbon substituted phenol, the molar ratio of phenol to pentoxide being 1:1 to 10:1. The reaction may be carried out in the presence of a solvent which may be an aryl hydrocarbon or a polar solvent, e.g. diethyl ether, carbitol, dibutyl ether, dioxane, chlorobenzene, nitrobenzene, carbon tetrachloride or chloroform. The aliphatic hydrocarbon substituent may be an alkyl group or an unsaturated radical, e.g. allyl or propargyl. The phenol may be a mono- or poly-substituted phenol. Phenols specified in the examples are para-tertiary amylphenol and mixtures thereof with allylphenol, and para-dodecylphenol.ALSO:Metal surfaces e.g. car bodies are coated by spraying with a solution of a mixture of a hydrocarbon resin and a composition prepared by reacting at 25-200 DEG C.a mixture of (A) 5-10 parts by weight of a grease prepared by mixing at 25-200 DEG C. a fluid mineral oil containing 10-70% of a carbonated, basic alkaline earth metal salt of one or more carboxylic, or sulphonic acids having at least 12 aliphatic carbon atoms per mol, said salt having a metal ratio of at least 4.5, and 1-80% based on the salt of an active hydrogen reactant selected from lower aliphatic carboxylic acids, water and aqueous alcohol containing up to 80% alcohol and (B) 1-2 parts of an acidic phosphorus-containing composition prepared by reacting at 50-200 DEG C. phosphorus pentoxide or a hydrate thereof and a phenolic reactant selected from aliphatic hydrocarbon substituted pehnols and the reaction product of 0.2-12.5 mols of a copolymer of alkyl alcohol and a styrene with 0.3-5.0 mols of an aliphatic hydrocarbon substituted phenol, the molar ratio of the phenol to the phosphorus pentoxide being 1:1 to 10:1. Hydrocarbon resins specified are coumarone-indenes, polystyrene, polymerized beta-pinenes and polyisobutenes. Solvents specified are 1, 1, 1-trichloroethane, benzene, toluene, mineral spirits and turpentine.
