    • A conditioned alum-type water treatment residual is disclosed. A process for the conditioning of alum-type water treatment residual is likewise disclosed. The process includes dewatering the alum-type water treatment residual and conditioning by at least one method selected from the group consisting of conditioning by aging and physically turning periodically. A blended topsoil comprises conditioned alum-type water treatment residual and at least one topsoil component. A process for producing a blended topsoil with alum-type water treatment residual is disclosed. The alum-type water treatment residual is dewatered, conditioned by aging or turning periodically, and blended with topsoil components to produce a blended topsoil. The blended topsoil contains up to 50% alum-type water treatment residual by volume and preferably contains up to 30% alum-type water treatment residual by volume. The percentage of alum-type water treatment residual is dependent upon concentrations of metallic elements such as aluminum, copper, lead, zinc, and manganese, and the pH level of alum-type water treatment residual and the blended topsoil. A process for utilizing alum-type water treatment residual is also disclosed.

    • The present invention relates to a process for producing compost, characterized in that when the compost is produced by inoculating aerobic composting seed bacteria to an organic waste material, the process comprises: supplying oxygen while the waste material is stirred, and supplying water so that the water content of the waste material is 60±5%, and to a process for producing compost, characterized in that when the compost is produced by inoculating aerobic composting seed bacteria to an organic waste material, the process comprises, after begining of the fermentation, adding sugars to the waste material in a divisional manner before a main fermentation is transferred to the amine/ammonium metabolic system. Further, according to the present invention, an apparatus for producing compost is provided. The apparatus comprises: a fermentation vessel having an oxygen supplying means, a water distributing means, and a stirring means; and a control means for detecting or determining the moisture content of an organic waste material contained in the fermentation vessel to control, on the basis of the detected or determined result, the amount of water to be distributed by the water distributing means. According to the present invention, when organic waste materials disposed from food processing factories and the like is processed to produce compost of high quality, formation of ammonium and amines mainly causing unpleasant odors or generation of lower fatty acid which is a factor for a growth inhibition of plants can be suppressed, and the compost can be produced in stable, and within a short period of time.

The process enables the production of an organic fertilizer from lignite distinguished by a humus-like structure and slow-releasing fertilization effect, and its use as such or as an addition to yield-increasing and soil-ameliorating substrates.
