    • Glass fibres are sized by applying thereto a linear polycarbonate having a molecular weight above 10,000. The polycarbonate is preferably one prepared from an aromatic dihydroxy compound preferably a bisphenylol-alkane, -cycloalkene, - ether, -sulphide, -sulphane or sulphide or a mixture of aromatic and aliphatic or cycloaliphatic dihydroxy compounds. Polycarbonates or mixed polycarbonates produced wholly or partially from B-alkenyl-substituted aromatic dihydroxy compounds, e.g. mono-and diallyl-and-methallyl-hydroquinone 3-mono-and 3, 31-diallyl-and-methallyl-4, 41-di-hydroxy diphenyl and the 3-mono-and 3, 31-diallyl-and-methallyl compounds of bio-(4-diphenylol)-methane, -ethane, -propane, -butene, cyclohexane, ether, sulphide, sulphoxide or sulphane, may be used. 0.5-5% by weight solutions or emulsions of the polycarbonates in benzene, toluene, xylene, methylene chloride, ethylene chloride, chloroform or carbon tetrachloride possibly with the addition of mono-or dichloro-benzene or aniode, or aqueous dispersions of the polycarbonates may be applied to the fibres during their production, after burning off a chromium complex size or after coating with a butadiene-styrene copolymer size.
