    • A yard sign for dispensing plastic bags for use in collecting domestic pet waste for later disposal includes a display panel attachable to the ground and a supply of waste bags dispensed from the rear of the sign through a slot. The display panel preferably has a contour that depicts a familiar object such as a dog or other animal. A dispensing slot or opening is preferably positioned at the location of the animal's mouth. Waste bags are stored on a continuous perforated roll on the back of the sign. In one embodiment of the invention, bag storage and dispensing is accomplished by the use of a hanger assembly including a mounting bracket and a U-shaped rod with one arm of the rod serving as a holder for a roll of bags. In another embodiment, bags are held and dispensed by a strap retained by snap fasteners on the back of the sign. In use, the sign is placed in a yard in an area convenient to a pet owner walking his or her pet to facilitate the pet owner's ability to dispose of pet waste. The present invention encourages responsibility on the part of pet owners when in public or common areas.

    • A flange design for spools and reels may be provided from molded materials such as plastics. Improved strength, stiffness, fracture resistance, energy absorption, and toughness may be provided by appropriate design of corrugations extending substantially radially from a hub or core portion toward a rim portion. Spools and reels may be produced from Styrene plastics, olefinics such as polyethylene and polyprophelene, and may have tubes formed from the same or different materials. Flanges may be designed to crush near a rim or to be stiff near a rim. Likewise, portions of a flange may be designed to buckle, fracture, or otherwise fail sufficiently to absorb energy, while protecting a spool from excessive fracture or distortion. Likewise, portions of the flange may be designed to fail while others nearby do not, in order to protect against catastrophic failure (e.g. extensive separation). Thus, whether a tube is integrally formed with a flange or attached to a flange by fasteners or bonding, the impact load typically tested by drop testing a loaded flange (wire-wrapped flange) may be survived by designing wall thicknesses, corrugation dimensions, and angles to selectively balance distortion, fracture, toughness, and stiffness of various portions of a spool or reel.

    • A release disc that is mounted on one end of a tissue roll holder and provides an easy, less stressful way of releasing a tissue roll holder after the tissue roll has been depleted and it is now time to install a fresh roll of tissue. The release disc is placed over either end of the roll holder on the reduced diameter portion prior to inserting the roll holder by placing one's fingers over the release disc to compress the roll holder sufficiently to clear the mounting support and insert it into the support recesses. The procedure is merely reversed for removal of the roll holder when it is time to add a new roll of tissue to the roll holder. The invention finds particular usefulness with persons of impaired dexterity or other infirmities. The release disc is installed without any required tools or modifications to the current roll holder assembly.
