    • A dispensing structure is provided for dispensing the contents from the interior of a container out of an opening in the container. The structure includes a body for mounting to the container at the container opening. The body is adapted for movement in directions toward and away from the container. The body defines a dispensing orifice for establishing communication between the exterior and interior of the container. The body has a sealing member for being disposed in the container opening. The sealing member has an outer sealing surface for sealingly engaging the container around the container opening when the body is located at a first sealing position relative to the container. The sealing member defines a vent passage extending inwardly from the outer sealing surface for communicating with the container interior whereby movement of the body in the direction away from the container a sufficient amount to a venting position locates a portion of the vent passage outwardly of the container opening to establish communication between the container interior and the container exterior. A lid is provided to accommodate movement between a closed position occluding the body dispensing orifice and an open position away from the body dispensing orifice.

    • A two stage dispensing cap for a carbonated beverage container is described. The cap has a flip top which is hingedly connected to a collar wherein the collar is rotatable on the container. The cap, upon rotation of the collar, is first opened into a venting position wherein the flip top vents the pressurized contents of the container but remains locked partially closed. Continued rotation of the cap releases the locked flop top to allow the container to be fully opened. A set of cams on the container neck work in conjunction with annular beads to first allow partially opening of the flip top into the venting position and then allowing it to fully open.

    • A closure structure is provided for a container that has an opening to the container interior. The closure structure includes a closure base for extending around the container opening. A lid is provided on the closure base and is connected to the base by a hinge web. The hinge web has a first end connected to the closure base, a second end connected to the lid, and two sides which each extends between the first and second ends. A frangible, reduced-thickness section of material initially connects the lid to the closure base and initially connects both of the hinge web sides to the closure base or to the lid for initially holding the lid sealed closed at a tamper-evident, first closed position and for subsequently accommodating movement of the lid relative to the first closed position to break the frangible connection and become selectively located at one of the following positions: (1) a second closed position inwardly of the first closed position, and (2) an open position outwardly of both the first closed position and second closed position.

    • A closure structure for a container includes a closure body having a deck and a depending skirt, the skirt being adapted to be mounted on a container neck or formed with the container. A dispensing orifice is formed through the deck. A protruding member extends from a surface of the deck, the protruding member including a first locking ledge at an intermediate position along a length of the protruding member. A lid, hinged at one side to the closure body at a position opposite to the protruding member, has a socket on a side of the lid opposite the hinge. The socket has a receiver cavity open in an axial direction of the lid and includes a second locking ledge extending radially within the receiver cavity. The first and second locking ledges are engageable when the protruding member is positioned sufficiently within the receiver cavity when the lid is initially closed to the body. The engagement of the first and second locking ledges prevents the lid from being opened from the body, the socket and the protruding member being connected to the lid and the body respectively by frangible elements. The body includes an inset on a surface thereof below the protruding member, and the lid includes an apron extending from the socket. The apron and the inset being shaped and configured such that the apron fits within the inset to be flush with adjoining surfaces of the annular skirt of the body when the lid is engaged to the body.

    • A lid for a container is provided generally comprising a main body and a door having a flip section pivotally connected to a push section, the push section pivotally connected to the main body. The main body includes a recess that defines a pivot wall. The flip section is positioned to engage the pivot wall and rotate relative to the push section in response to downward pressure on the push section. A detent mechanism is used to control opening the door in at least two stages. In the first stage, the detent mechanism substantially fixes the push section in a closed position, and in the second stage substantially fixes the push section in an open position. In one embodiment, the floor of the recess is sloped to increase container space and limit flexure of the push section of the door.
