Economizer valve gear. - Relates to gear for the economizer or stop valves of steamsteering, winding, and other engines having economizer valves in addition to the ordinary reversing-valves. In the arrangement shown, the economizer valve 12 is normally closed by steam admitted above the piston 22 through the pipe 24. When the operator turns the shaft 16, the bevel-wheels 15, 14 turn the shaft 6, which simultaneously moves longitudinally on account of a screwed part 13 turning in the worm wheel 5 of the ordinary hunting-gear. The shaft carries a yoke 9 having a V-shaped slot 10 in which works a roller 11 on one end of a lever 30 connected at the other end to the rod 18 of the valve 24, which, as the shaft moves longitudinally, is moved downwards to allow the steam to flow under the piston 22 and so to open the valve 12. The V-shaped slot and roller may be replaced by a cam or a link device so arranged that steam is cut off from the engine when the longitudinally-movable control member returns approximately to mid-position, as in the arrangement shown.

Hand, foot, and like gear.-The main stopvalve q is opened and closed by a fluid-actuated piston p controlled by a valve j, which is operated by intermediate mechanism connected to a ship's steering-wheel.
