Detonating signals; hand-levers; detonator apparatus of the chain type comprises a plate frame 2 carrying chain sprockets 61, 62, sprocket 61 being secured to a ratchet wheel 21 engaged by spring pawls 17, 18, pawl 18 being carried in a frame 20 fixed to the frame 2 and pawl 17 being carried by a lever 13 spring pressed at 25 and actuated by the armature 32 of an electromagnet 33 energized by a battery and hand switch at a distance. Each detonator 68 has a wire loop 69 and extension 70 secured by bolt 71, plate 72 and pin 75 to a member 64 carried by the chain 63, as in Specification 234,671. A double actuation of the lever 13 is required to carry a detonator from position J to position 68 , while stops 22, 23 limit the movement of the lever. The frame 2 is provided with feet to bring each detonator at position 68 over the rail head. The hand switch comprises a lever 46 with insulated handle 47, pivoted at 45 and moving between two contacts 48 on a frame comprising two plates 36, 37 of ebonite or other insulation, the lever 47 in its movement passing through the contacts to position I.

    • 234,671. Patrick, H. H. Aug. 6, 1924. Detonator apparatus; hand levers; lamp signals; detonating signals.- The carrier-chain 36, Fig. 6, is actuated by sprocket wheel 35 on a shaft 32 carrying a bevel wheel 31 which is continuously rotated from a reciprocating shaft 6 by loose bevel wheels 7, 8 carrying pawls 9, 10 engaged by opposed ratchet wheels 11, 12 secured to the shaft 6. The shaft 32 is journaled in plates 2, 3, Fig. 3, carried by longitudinal frames 1 which also support a plate 4 for a lamp 61. An arm 51 on the shaft 6 reciprocates a rod 53 carrying a frame 57 provided with red and green glasses 58, 59. Spring-pressed pawls steady the motion of the bevel wheels 7, 8, while a stop arm is fixed to the shaft 6 which carries a weighted lever 13 coupled by a wire or rod 14 to a hand lever 15. The lever 15 has a slide 24 with bevelled ends 27 engaging notches 19 in the quadrant 18, the lever being movable in one direction only until the slide is reversed by its handle 23. Each detonator 42 has a wire loop 43 which may engage a pin 50 on the carrier 39 and is secured by a bolt 45 and plate 47. The travel of the chain 36 may be arranged to place a detonator over the line at every movement of the lever, or at every two movements. Several machines may be place side by side and operated by one lever.

July 20, 1923 Detonator apparatus; wire, rod, and like compensators.-In detonator laying apparatus, particularly of the kind described in Specification 11760/15, operated from a semaphore lever or train-actuated treadle rail a swinging lever lostmotion device is introduced between the operating lever and the carrier member which serves to place the detonators on the rail. so that the latter member is operated by a definite amount notwithstanding slack in the wire or other transmission connection. Detonators piled in a receptacle 5 are transferred singly from the bottom of the pile to jaws 4 by a reciprocated slider 6, the jaws 4 being carried by a slider 11 to place the detonator on the rail or withdraw it. The slider 11 is reciprocated in conjunction with movement of a semaphore signal by slots 12 in a swinging lever 9 engaging pins 10 on the slider 11. The lever 9 is moved in one direction by a counterweighted arm 8 and in the other by a wire &c. 17 leading to the semaphore lever or treadle rail. The slots are so formed that the slider 11 is withdrawn or advanced only during the initial or final portions respectively of the movement of tne lever 9.
