    • The invention relates to a method and apparatus for narrowing a paper roll to a measured width by removing from its end a disc-like part by cutting, in which method the paper roll is rotated around its axis during the cutting. According to the invention the cutting is carried out by means of a cutting blade (8) which comprises a disc-like, round blade, with a wedge-like blade edge (8a) arranged on the circumference thereof; the said cutting blade is geared to a blade support (9) in a freely rotatable fashion. The cutting blade (8) is pressed at right angles to the side or the paper roll towards the central axis (A-A) thereof, so that during the narrowing process, the wedge-like blade edge (8a) of the cutting blade is supported, on the side of the main part of the paper roll, on the first blade side (8c), to the cutting surface (1b) of the paper roll (1), and the second blade side (8d) is used for shifting the disc-like part (1a) away from the main part of the paper roll as the cutting proceeds.

    • Method for cutting preferably metal reinforced hoses, metal pipes or similar, and a device for utilization of the method, the cutting operation being performed in a known way using a cutting tool, such as a motor driven cutting disc or similar. As an initial step, a means (1) is located surrounded by the tubeshaped member (2) to be cut with a central position in relation to the point where cutting is intended to be performed, said means (1) being arranged to take up intimate contact with the internal surface of the tubeshaped member (2) by at least two from each other separated areas (4, 4') at each side of the cutting point.
