    • The invention relates to a process for the production of a milling tool for cutting machining, preferably of metals. The milling tool comprises a holder part (2) for the fixation of the milling tool upon a rotating driving arrangement, and an insert-carrying part which around its periphery is equipped with several detachable cutting inserts (23), each cutting insert being fastened in an insert seat, which at least partly is situated in a peripherical, insert-carrying milling tool portion (12). Each insert seat comprises a bottom support surface (10) and a side support comprising at least one side support surface (9), a chip pocket (25) being provided in front of each insert seat in the direction of rotation. The advantage of the invention is that the side support of the insert seat at least partly is made by a ball-nose end mill (8). This brings about that the humber of insert seats in a given milling tool may be substantially increased.

    • An exchangeable cutting insert is adapted for mounting in a cutter tool body for use in combined face and periphery milling operations. The cutting insert is a substantially prismoidal body having a planar base (1) and an upper surface (2) with rake portions (10) merging with side flanks (3) of the insert and at least two cutting edges (5) defining therebetween an insert corner (6). The insert corner has a bisector plane (O-O) perpendicular to the base of the insert. Each cutting edge (5) comprises a central portion (5a) and first and second lateral portions (5b, 5c) sloping with respect to the base of the insert and the corner being associated with adjoining first and second lateral portions (5b, 5c) of the adjacent cutting edges.     • An improved rotary cutting tool has a cutting insert mounting member (1) and a star shaped cutter insert holding member (2) of similar diameter. The two members, when interfitted, secure a plurality of cutting inserts (5) about the outer circumference of the assembled tool. Secure clamping of the cutters is achieved through both axial and radial clamping forces generated by the action of the holding member. Additional radial and axial clamping forces are exerted on the cutting inserts by centripetal acceleration acting on the members during operation. Optional depth limiter devices (6) that mount in the tool act as skids on the work surface to control the aggressiveness of the cut. An isolation mechanism (16, 22) may be included to eliminate oscillations transmitted by the hand-held power unit to the cutting tool.
