    • A diamond coated drill capable of drilling large holes in composite materials and then reaming the holes to their correct size includes a pair of prongs extending from a shank. Each of the prongs has a tip, a grinder, and a reamer. The tips initiate a hole, the grinders gradually grind the hole to the proper size, and the reamers control the final diameter of the hole. The tips have a coarse grit diamond coating. The grinders also have a coarse grit diamond coating and are axially tapered toward the tips. The reamers have a fine grit diamond coating and are disposed axially above the grinders and the shank of the drill. The grinders apply a radial load to the composite material resulting in no fiber breakout or splintering. The composite material drilled by the drill naturally falls out of the drill during drilling.

    • A core drill extender apparatus comprises an extender tube that is adapted to make a screw connection to a driver, and a connector assembly releasably mounted in the front end of the tube for connecting the extender tube to a core drill. The connector assembly comprises a tapered mandrel having a threaded axial extension at its front end for making a screw connection to a core drill, and an expandable locking sleeve that surrounds and engages the outer surface of the mandrel. The sleeve is made so that moving it relative to the mandrel in the direction of increasing mandrel outer surface diameter will cause the sleeve to expand radially and into tight frictional engagement with the extender tube.

    • A tool holder, which has a tool bit pivotal in a recess in one end thereof, extends coaxially through a generally bell shaped piston housing, and through the center of a piston slidably mounted on the holder for limited reciprocation in the housing axially thereof. The piston is urged by a compressing spring to a retracted position against one end of the housing, and has a reduced diameter annular wall that projects coaxially toward the end of the holder containing the tool bit. In use the end of the holder opposite the tool bit is connected to the drive spindle of a machine tool and a supply of air or fluid under pressure which passes through an axial bore and radial port in the holder to one side of the retracted piston causing the piston to advance it helical slot relative to the actuating rod lever thereby to pivot the tool bit out of the recess and into an operative position.
