    • A collet chuck assembly includes a mount, a selectively-axially-movable collet closing sleeve, and a multiple-segment collet head. The collet head includes two axially-spaced outer circumferential cam surfaces that engage two axially-spaced inner circumferential cam surfaces of the closing sleeve. A quick-release cap attached to the mount includes two inwardly-radially-extending tabs that engage two outwardly-radially-extending lips of the collet head to prevent the collet head from moving axially relative to the cap. Flat resilient collet seals are disposed between each set of adjoining collet segments to prevent debris from getting into the collet chuck assembly between the segments. The collet seals maintain full-surface contact with adjoining segments even when the collet head is fully opened. A slinger bore formed in the cap directs debris radially-outwardly out of the collet chuck assembly.

A sleeve extending axially from the collet-head-receiving portion mates with the bullnose bore for purposes of mounting the collet-receiving component on the bullnose in an operative position such that the collet-head-receiving portion is disposed ahead of the forward face of the bullnose and the bullnose rotational axis and the adapter rotational axis coincide. One embodiment includes a collar that fits over the forward end portion of the bullnose. A collet adapter assembly includes the adapter, a collet, and an adapter-nut-and-machine-screw combination for coupling the collet to the draw tube on the unit of machining equipment. A mounting fixture constructed according to the invention includes at least two screw holes in its forward end for use in screwing a collet-head-receiving component onto the forward face of the mounting fixture.

A pressure release chamber releases the joint between the chuck and the tool.

The collet body 10 has a slot 13 formed at least from the top-end side thereof, and an annular projection 21 which is formed on the top-end side and which is coupled with the cap 11. The cap 1 has an annular groove 18 for coupling with the annular projection 21 of the collet body 10, and a cover 22 for covering the end face of the collet body 10 on the top-end side.
