    • There is described a method and an apparatus for cleaning a dust separator which has a raw gas shaft (3), through which raw gas flows from the top to the bottom, and filter elements (5) protruding into the raw gas shaft (3) transverse to the raw gas flow, by which filter elements the raw gas is deflected into a clean gas shaft (4) under a corresponding separation of dust, and which filter elements are briefly subjected to compressed air one after the other for blowing off the dust particles deposited on the same into the raw gas shaft (3), where during the application of compressed air onto the filter elements (5) their flow connection to the clean gas shaft (4) is interrupted. To ensure a good cleaning effect, it is proposed that during the interruption of the flow connection between the filter elements (5) and the clean gas shaft (4) a raw gas stream having a flow component directed from the top to the bottom flows around the filter elements (5) blocked against the clean gas shaft (4).

    • A dust collector for handling high temperature process gases such as air containing dust and dirt. The collector includes a cylindrical filter housing and a clean air plenum mounted over the housing. A series of ceramic filter tubes are mounted in a tube sheet situated between the housing and the plenum and hot dirt containing process air is drawn from the housing into the plenum through the filter tubes. A blowdown system is mounted in the plenum over the filter tube for periodically pulsing a jet of dirt removing air into the filter tubes with sufficient force to remove dirt and dust collected upon the filter tubes. The valves and the inlet piping to the blowdown tubes are protected from the heat generated in the housing by a pair of spaced apart heat shields that are designed to conduct a natural flow of cool ambient air over the pipes. Heat exchanger fins are mounted upon the pipes to further enhance the cooling process.

    • A door assembly for securing an elongate filter cartridge in a dust collector. The door assembly utilizes a mounting plate engaged with the cover of an elongated filter cartridge so as to substantially seal the cartridge opening. The filter cartridge and mounting plate surround a support rod which extends through an aperture in an outer door that is engaged with the door wall of the dust collector so as to substantially seal the entrance of the dust collector. A spring assembly is positioned about the rod connects the door to the mounting plate. A compression spring within the spring assembly extends between the door and mounting plate, and a holder is tightenably and removably engaged with the end of the support rod thereby applying a closing force along the rod and sealing the cartridge in position in the dirty-air chamber.

    • The present invention is concerned with the cleaning of fouled air filters to alleviate the problems caused by disposal of such filters as waste and to reduce the cost of maintenance of the many apparatus requiring air filters. The present invention provides a motorized turntable provided in a filter chamber in a housing whereby the fitter can be spun on its axis at a speed sufficient to discharge the fouling into the filter chamber. The fouled atmosphere in the filter chamber is exhausted to a vacuum chamber where the fouling settles out for disposal.

First and second drives propel the nozzle simultaneously across and along the filter, to provide full backwash cleaning coverage of the filter.

    • An exhaust system for a diesel engine which includes a particulate filter for filtering a flow of engine exhaust gas includes, as part of the exhaust system, a catch basin for the collection of oxidation by-products from the particulate filter. Important in the design is to orient the particulate filter in a generally vertical orientation based upon the normal orientation of the diesel engine when in use. By vibration of the engine due in part to engine operation and due in part to vehicle vibrations, oxidation by-products shake loose from the particulate filter and fall through a connecting conduit. By positioning the catch basin below the particulate filter and connecting it to the conduit, the oxidation by-products are able to be collected in the catch basin for removal at a later time.
