    • An artificial hair filament (10) for implanting in living tissue as a replacement for natural hair includes a stem section consisting essentilly of expanded polytetrafluoroethylene having an open microstructure formed of nodes with interconnecting fibrils having a length of from about 50 to about 500 microns, and wherein the filaments (10) include at least one radially extending anchoring member (e.g. 34, 36, 44, 54, 56) adjacent a downstream end thereof. An apparatus (70) in accordance with this invention includes an outer needle and guide member (72) having a lower piercing end (74) for piercing tissue (e.g., 14) as part of a filament implantation procedure, and an inner, stepped driving member (76) movable relative to the needle and guide member (72) for engaging the anchoring member of the filament at different locations for forcing the filament out of the needle and guide member (72). A method of implanting the artificial filament (10) of this invention also forms a part of the present invention.

    • The present invention relates to an artificial implantological hair which comprises in a portion thereof a knot self-tying during its sliding movement along the fiber of the artificial hair. The cited knot once tied on the artificial hair fiber has a bulk dimension substantially equal to the diameter dimension of the artificial hair itself, and a lug defining with the end portion of the artificial hair a hooked configuration which cooperates with the knot to retain the artificial hair within the subcutaneous. For inserting the artificial hair into the subcutaneous, a device is provided which cooperates with a body wherein a needle is slidable which has sufficient hardness to penetrate the subcutaneous and high elasticity effective to enable it to move back through the same path opened in the subcutaneous during the introduction of the artificial hair.

    • A cosmetic procedure for hair transplantation is carried out with an apparatus (50) comprising a magazine (52) with a plurality of compartments (53) each containing a sample of de-epithelialised tissue having at least one hair shaft attached to a hair bulb. The magazine (52) is loaded in an apparatus (50) having a tapered hollow lumen (57) aligned with a pusher rod (56).
