    • A sprinkler head assembly comprised of a base located at the upper end of a riser tube and which base carries an insert with an opening allowing for distribution of water. In accordance with the present invention, a control valve is located directly at the sprinkler head assembly. The control valve may be located in a stationary or shrub head which would be connected to a base or otherwise to a riser tube. The control valve could be located in a pop-up shaft, pop-up sprinkler head, or in a retrofit coupling or adapter located between a riser tube and sprinkler head. The control valve would rely upon a screw capable of being threadedly moved into a duct generally perpendicular thereto and which would have a diametral size somewhat larger than the duct. Moreover, the screw would be provided with an opening having a diameter approximately equal to that of the duct. The opening would be alignable with the duct in one position and when rotated would completely block the flow in another position. In this way, water flow to the sprinkler head assembly may be temporarily interrupted.

    • A deep root watering unit is provided for improved irrigation and aeration of tree roots and the like, particularly with respect to trees planted in non-native or hostile environments such as planters, tree wells in paved areas, clay soils and arid climates. The root watering unit includes a porous sleeve extending downwardly from an upper atrium housing, wherein the watering unit is adapted for in-ground installation adjacent to tree roots or the like. The atrium housing defines a hollow atrium chamber equipped with internal support members for mounting different types of irrigation water dispensing devices, such as a bubbler head or emitter device, for delivering irrigation water downwardly into the porous sleeve and further there through to the adjacent plant roots. A cap grate is removably mounted over the top of the atrium housing to accommodate access to the atrium chamber and the selected water dispensing device mounted therein.

    • A protecter for a riser connected to an underground water pipe and sprinkler head attached at a top portion thereof includes an elongate hollow body member having an upper portion with an upper opening and a lower portion with a lower opening, each opening being defined by a rim on respective upper and lower portion. The body defines an interior space for housing a riser and sprinkler head therein and has a lower portion including a pair of slots formed therein for fitting the body over an underground water pipe, and an upper portion further including a concave hood member extending laterally outwardly and downwardly of the rim of the upper opening and defining a cavity. The hood member has a lower edge portion for engaging a ground surface to limit downward travel of the protecter. The slots have an open lower portion and an arcuate upper portion for engaging the upper surface of an underground water pipe. The protecter also includes a plurality of spaced flanges extending beneath the hood member and engaged with the body to inhibit rotative motion of the hood member by positioning the flanges into a ground surface. The lower edge portion is located in a plane beneath an underground water pipe.

    • A root-level plant watering and feeding device has a hollow annular liquid dispersion member that circumscribes a center opening of sufficient size to completely encircle a buried root system of a plant and an elongate hollow tubular fill tube connected with the dispersion member which has an upper portion extending upwardly therefrom terminating in an open top end. A removable cap encloses the open top end. The dispersion member has an upper and lower row of longitudinally spaced perforations through its side wall that face toward the center opening. The dispersion member is positioned underground in a substantially horizontal plane with its center opening completely encircling the buried root system in radially spaced relation with the fill tube extending upwardly therefrom and its open top end disposed above the ground surface. Liquids and nutrients introduced into the fill tube are disbursed generally equally through the soil with the upper row of holes directing liquid and nutrients toward an upper portion of the root system and the lower row directing liquid and nutrients toward or below a lower portion of the root system. When the fill tube is empty and the cap is removed, the device serves as an aerator conduit to deliver oxygen directly to the soil surrounding the roots.
