    • Sweep retaining structure includes a spring wire retainer with a base supported in a groove on the underside of the wedge support which mates with a stem portion of the sweep. The wedge support is apertured, and a central curved portion of the retainer passes through the aperture and supports a sweep-contacting end above the surface of the wedge support. The end is biased toward a contact area on the sweep to engage the area and eliminate sweep loss problems by preventing the sweep from slipping downwardly from the mounted position. To remove the sweep, a tool is inserted through the slot to depress the retainer end, and the sweep is forced off the wedge support. A raised area on the sweep directs soil away from the retainer and contact area to reduce wear and eliminate depression of the end during operation. The underside of the raised area positions the wire end and provides bend-resisting support for the wire.

    • A machine for controlling and eventually eradicating cactus and other succulent plants in farm and ranch pastures and other lands and land uses. This apparatus for mechanically controlling and eradicating cactus and other succulent plants uses a cutter deck on the machine to break off cactus pads near ground level. The tool uses a crushing rail to crush and mangle cactus pads and large portions of other succulents increasing the probability that the plant parts will not reroot. The machine in its preferred embodiment is towed by a tractor or other vehicle. A preferred embodiment includes a ballast rail to increase the weight of the tool and enhance the crushing action and a chain tow bridle to attach the tool to the towing vehicle. Another preferred embodiment includes a loop forming bolt to hold the bridle.

    • A retainer is disclosed for preventing accidental release of a knock-on earthworking tool from an adaptor secured to the tine of an agricultural implement. The retainer, which is integrally formed from a single piece of metal, comprises an anchoring portion which is retained inside a bolt hole of the of the adaptor and a tail portion which extends between the anchoring portion and an aperture in the stem of the earthworking tool. The tail of the retainer has an upturned end which catches in the aperture in the stem of the earthworking tool when the stem is wedged over the adaptor in its normal working position, thereby preventing accidental dislodgement of the earthworking tool during use.

    • The resilient scraping blade attachment is provided that includes an attachment hook-up assembly adapted to be mounted on a vehicle. The attachment hook-up assembly includes an elongated central support member and a vehicle interface component. In addition, the attachment hook-up assembly includes a pair of diagonal supports that link the central support member to the vehicle interface component. A mounting plate is secured at an end of the central support member. A resilient blade assembly is attached to the attachment hook-up assembly by means of a bearing bracket and bearing means. The resilient blade assembly includes an elongated blade mounting channel having a pair of resilient blades mounted thereon. The resilient blade assembly includes extension blades that may be mounted at the ends of the blade mounting channel in order to increase the effective width of the resilient blade assembly. The extension blades may be contoured to approximate different surfaces such as a roadside curb. A hydraulic cylinder is mounted on the attachment hook-up assembly and includes a piston that is mounted on the resilient blade assembly to control and pivot the resilient blade assembly. Angle limiter chains are provided to limit the pivoting movement of the resilient blade assembly.

    • A hilling spade according to the present invention has a pair of moldboards or wings defining a plowing angle having a pointed forward end. Each wing has a central planar surface, a cutting edge, and a lower curved surface between the cutting edge and the central planar surface. The lower curved surface has a curvature oriented vertically inwardly relative to the plowing angle. Each wing also has an upper curved surface having a curvature oriented vertically outwardly relative to the plowing angle. When the hilling spade is used for hilling ridges along rows of plants, the lower curved surfaces are usable for lapping lower portions of the ridges for compacting the lower portions and for reducing erosion of these ridges. The upper curved surfaces are usable for pushing soil over the ridges and under the foliage of the plants on those ridges without damaging the foliage.
