摘要： A system and method for affixing barbs on a suture are provided. In one embodiment, the system includes a suture supply mechanism for selectively retaining a length of suture and a barb supply mechanism for operably engaging a barb supply assembly including at least one barb. At least one of the suture supply mechanism and the barb supply mechanism are configured to approximate towards the other of the barb supply mechanism and suture supply mechanism to engage the at least one barb of the barb supply assembly with the suture of the suture supply assembly. Also provided are a barb for use in forming a barbed suture and a suture including at least one barb.

摘要： A method and apparatus for wrapping pipe, of the type used in gas pipe lines for example, with multiple strips of metal strapping. The pipe is mounted on a pair of chucks which fit into the open ends of the pipe to rotate the pipe while multiple spools of metal strapping are moved axially along the pipe. The ends of the multiple strips of strapping are initially clamped to a dummy mandrel having the same outside diameter as the pipe, and this mandrel is rotated along with the pipe so that the multiple strips of strapping are wound helically around the mandrel and the pipe as the spools of strapping are traversed along the length of the pipe. At the terminating end of the pipe, the wrapping of the multiple strips of strapping is continued on to a second dummy mandrel having the same outside diameter as the pipe, and the strapping is then clamped and cut on the second dummy mandrel. A pair of cutting discs are provided for cutting off the metal strapping flush with the ends of the pipe, and a pair of clamping ring locators are provided for positioning clamping rings adjacent the opposite ends of the pipe. The chucks which hold and rotate the pipe comprise expanding mandrels for expanding the pipe and the wrapping outwardly against the clamping ring so that the wrapping is clamped firmly between the clamping ring and the pipe at both ends of the pipe.

摘要： Pipe cleaners comprising a plurality of short pieces of threads as active elements are formed in machines arranged in pairs. Threads are wound in helices around two rigid wires, which are advanced adjacent and parallel to each other and each belong to a different one of the machines of the pair. The turns of the helices are severed between the wires in such a way that two pieces of thread are formed of each turn. Half of the thread pieces are secured to each wire by approaching one additional wire to each of the firstmentioned wires and twisting the wires pairwise for clamping the thread pieces between the wires of each pair and for forming two pipe cleaner strings, which are subsequently cut into individual pipe cleaners.The common parts of the machines of a pair comprise thread bobbins, thread winding means, thread severing means and means for guiding the thread helices forming wires.
