    • A chuck (30) having a body (54) formed with a bore (60) having a fixed clamp segment (134) and a movable clamp segment (166) located in radial opposition. A pair of ribs (142) on fixed segment (134) and a single rib (172) on movable segment (166) extend radially inward and cooperate to clamp a shank (42). A sleeve (78) is positioned about body (54) and is movable axially relative thereto. A camming section (88) formed on an interior wall of sleeve (78) is captured between a head (124) of a pin (122) and a detent ring (132) to latch sleeve (78) in an unclamped mode. When shank (42) is inserted into bore (60), the forward end of the shank (42) engages pin (122) to move head (124) against camming section (88) which, in turn, moves section (88) past the detent ring (132). Thus, the sleeve (78) is unlatched and moved forward to compress a plurality of rollers (196) against fixed segment (134) and movable segment (166) to place sleeve (78) in a clamped mode, clamping shank (42).
