    • PURPOSE: To convert a 14W22C unsaturated fatty acid to a 14W22C unsaturated dicarboxylic acid by using yeast belonging to Candida tropicalis.
      CONSTITUTION: A 14W22C unsaturated fatty acid such as myristooleic acid,2- hexadecenoic acid, etc. is converted to an unsaturated dicarboxylic acid having the same number of C atoms, either by culturing yeasts such as Candida tropicalis 401 (FERM-P No.1367) in a conventional medium under aerobic conditions, and add- ing the fatty acid or its ester to the medium during cultivation, or by enzymatically oxidizing the fatty acid with the microbial cells of the stationary state. The produced unsaturated dicarboxylic acid is separated from the cultivation liquid or the reaction mixture.
